Go Polaski, Go Polaski, Go!

I’m having too much fun with this …
Reminds me of the Gore and Bush Jr. Election. But these options are revolutionary.

What an electric pair of candidate slates!

Safe to assume Selar brought in big Vulcan donors for the Pulaski campaign, while Ogawa polls better amongst Delta Shift and the rest of the Lower Decks in favour of Crusher. Wolf Blitzer and the CNN crew will be here all night...

:guffaw:

No issues with Beverly, but I liked how Pulaski stood up to authorities. She snubbed Jean-Luc several times, which is actually impolite. But nonetheless, she was refreshing and a professional and experienced medic on top of that: think of the tea ceremony with Worf....:klingon:

I prefer Crusher for two reasons, the obvious one is that she was the doctor when I was first introduced to STNG, so she feels like the right choice.
Another reason is the Beverly - Wesley - Jean-Luc - Jack connection, Picard ordered Jack on a mission from where he never returned.
So, there's some tension going on and in 'The Bonding' Wesley really tells Picard what he thinks of the situation.
Also, the romantic interest with Jean-Luc and Beverly, will they, will they not? All that wouldn't have happened with Pulaski.
Pulaski was different and threw in some interesting things but overall I think Beverly is the way to go.

That's one of the things I wish the series had explored more. There was some of it in Season 1, but it seemed all but gone when Beverly returned in Season 3.

There were few but only few when that thing was visited.
I remember season 3 with 'Allegiance', although real Picard wasn't around.
Then there was season 7 with 'Attached' but that didn't take things anywhere really.
Anything else? There was a kiss in the final episode but because it was the final episode it limits where that relationship could go.

Full disclosure: I’m totally biased.

As far as the characters go, Pulaski at least brought some tension. Crusher was arrogant and just rubbed me the wrong way.

As far as the actresses go….Back in the day I was fortunate to have had lunch with Gates and some adult beverages with Diana (not at the same time, mind you). Note: I was working for a major advertiser at the time, so paramount was very accommodating to this Trekkie.

- Gates was much like her character… not terribly pleasant. Maybe I caught her on a bad day?

- Diana, by contrast, was the nicest and warmest person. Great conversation, super sweet.

So, given those two in person experiences and my thoughts on the characters… I’m a Pulaski fan. Both Crusher characters never worked for me.

Just my two cents.

It’s certainly interesting … I’ve been checking the poll on and off for the past week and although Crusher had built up some momentum and was ahead of Pulaski leading with a handful of votes, Pulaski has now clawed her way back to a tie. I had no idea Trek fans were so evenly split on this issue.

I'd say it's pretty impressive, considering Pulaski was only in one season (the shortest one of the seven, even) while Crusher did 6 seasons.

I think Pulaski, due to being only in one season, sparks the imagination of people. They can imagine what TNG might have been like if this character had been involved.

Plus, as I wrote earlier, Crusher, while I prefer her, was woefully underutilized and underdeveloped.

And finally, the big point of contention with Pulaski for many people has always been her bullying of Data in h er first couple appearances. Now almost 40 years on it's easier to look at her presence in Season 2 as a whole and dismiss her random prejudice as "early instalment weirdness", an aspect the writers tried out and discarded quickly. Like Picard being a staunch Frenchman in Season 1 or Troi actually experiencing the emotions she sensed in the pilot (and being able to telepathically communicate with Riker due to their connection).
