weird guy behind us who talked to himself and a guy next to me who ate mike & ikes while lip smacking. Will have to see it again in a bigger theatre during a matinee.
went to the 930 show and saw an entire family of klingons coming out of the 7 o clock. mom dad and teenage daughter.
How does it feel to uber-geek and crush a child's enthusiasm?7pm show in Manassas, VA. Most seat were filled but there were a few gaps. Smattering of applause at the appropriately geeky moments (Enterprise reveal, Kirk sits in the chair, etc). Laughter throughout the Kobayashi Maru test.
Some dressed up, much to my dismay. There was one kid who wore a homemade NASA blue jumpsuit. Since I had just gotten my launch pass at work that day, I had it in my pocket and showed him.
I won that battle.
They were harmless enough...and thank goodness I don't judge people!![]()

Lucky you people, lotsa people in the cinemas...
WTF?!?
I LOATHE crowds in cinemas.
More people you get, more chance there's going to be loud mouth dickheads. There's a reason why I am going to see this at Gold Class NEXT Tuesday!!!!
Huge crowd, extremely boisterous, very excited. Huge applause.

You do realize the irony in that statement, don't you?![]()
I thought I'd start a separate thread for this....separate from the review thread. This thread *isn't* to offer your own review of the movie, but to report on anything interesting about the crowd you saw the movie with. How full was the theater? Did anyone show up in costume? Did the crowd really get into it, and react to any specific moments? If so, which ones?
We have so many threads about the movie, but what about the movie going experience. Did people laugh, cheer, groan? Did you meet anyone. What were the trailers you saw before the movie and how packed/empty was it when you went. The movie itself is only half the fun. One of the reasons I wanted to go last night was to take advantage of the other half, the atmosphere.
So for me, I was very surprised the theater was half empty. I expected a lot more people there but for some reason it still felt just right. There were no disruptions from the phone or anything, and it just was a calm but still lively evening. I did meet this one guy though who is a DJ and he seemed very energetic. He was on the edge of his seat the whole time and it actually seemed a little crazy.
As for reactions to the film. people cheered when they saw the Title, old spock, (I got goosebumps) and at some other moments. At the end, there were some applause (I don't really understand the idea of applauding a movie, unless I was going to an event and there were people who were actually part of the movie were in the seats. As for the people who work at the theater, I appreciate what they do, but it is their jobs and I wouldn't applaude them after a movie like Transformers either.) and some cheers.
The trailers I saw were Year One (Which looks funny as heck), Night at the Museum II, Transformers II, Land of the Lost, Terminator: Salvation, and GI Joe. I was a bit surprised as to the comedies that were featured and wondered to my friend, "Is Star Trek a comedy?" At the end of the movie, I realized why.
Are you crazy, the shared experience is the whole reason to GO to a cinema! Otherwise I could just buy it and watch it on my shiny flat screen in a few months.
