crowd-response reports (SPOILERS)

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

Some slight giggling at the decent comedy moments, nothing more. We're British, we don't laugh uproariously, cheer, clap, or anything else at the movies ;)

Seriously. :D You'd get kicked out.

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

weird guy behind us who talked to himself and a guy next to me who ate mike & ikes while lip smacking. Will have to see it again in a bigger theatre during a matinee.

went to the 930 show and saw an entire family of klingons coming out of the 7 o clock. mom dad and teenage daughter.

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

I just got back. Huge crowd for a morning show. There was a lot of laughter and cheering and it got a standing ovation at the end.

Though I think the audience was mostly trekkies. When Scotty made the reference to Archer's beagle, someone shouted "Porthos!" and pretty much everyone laughed.

Oh lawdy mama I had a family of weirdos standing in front of me on line for 40 mins! The mother had no less than 10 knotted/bunned up ponytails on her head...some foul shirt that hadn't been washed since 1970, the father was the epitomy of geek gone wild....the son -- he was about 15, was wearing an awful, awful floral print shirt that I think I saw my grandma wearing last time she was alive ...which was 1978....and he was cutting out insignias on construction paper on the floor..... The daughter had a homemade live long an proper hanes t-shirt..I felt like givin her a few bucks so she could buy a proper shirt.......and then there was another teen age son who looked completly normal. He must of been this family's "Marilyn"....LOL LOL.

They were harmless enough...and thank goodness I don't judge people! :guffaw:

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

7pm show in Manassas, VA. Most seat were filled but there were a few gaps. Smattering of applause at the appropriately geeky moments (Enterprise reveal, Kirk sits in the chair, etc). Laughter throughout the Kobayashi Maru test.

Some dressed up, much to my dismay. There was one kid who wore a homemade NASA blue jumpsuit. Since I had just gotten my launch pass at work that day, I had it in my pocket and showed him.

I won that battle.

How does it feel to uber-geek and crush a child's enthusiasm?

(Although I applaud your underhanded tactics :shifty:)

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

What a horrible theatre I was in. I had a group of young idiots who knew nothing of Trek. When I walked in I heard one ask "So have you ever watched Star Trek?" and the other answered "No, it never really interested me." I was imediately sickened to be sharing a theatre with such Tellarite swine. And then they started making cracks about a Klingon dictionary. It took all that I am no to leap over there and punch them.

Lucky you people, lotsa people in the cinemas...

WTF?!?

I LOATHE crowds in cinemas.

More people you get, more chance there's going to be loud mouth dickheads. There's a reason why I am going to see this at Gold Class NEXT Tuesday!!!!

Are you crazy, the shared experience is the whole reason to GO to a cinema! Otherwise I could just buy it and watch it on my shiny flat screen in a few months.

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

Huge crowd, extremely boisterous, very excited. Huge applause.

Ditto. The audience was very pleased, people were laughing at the jokes and gasping during the action scenes. It was a lot of fun. And I saw no-one in a uniform. There were some people who obviously knew their canon, but most people were just average movie goers.

I saw it last night at a 9:30pm showing. It was a medium sized theater and was very close to full. It was noticeably a younger trendy crowd. I didn't see many geeky looking people there.

There were a lot of laughs. Any line that was remotely funny got a laugh. Practically anything Pine said or did got a laugh. There were a couple of girls sitting next to me and they were giggling all the way through, except when Spock lost his mother when I'm sure I heard a few sniffs!

At the end a few people started clapping.

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

saw it with a large crowd last night. there was a lot of 'nerd' discussions through all the trailers. people booed the GI Joe trailer. as for Trek everyone laughed at the right moments and when the lights went up everyone seemed to like it. i didn't hear any negative views.

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

All of todays showings at the Glasgow IMAX were sold out :D There was much laughter at the 6:30 showing, some scattered applause at the end. There weren't any trailers, it just launched right into the movie.

I thought I'd start a separate thread for this....separate from the review thread. This thread *isn't* to offer your own review of the movie, but to report on anything interesting about the crowd you saw the movie with. How full was the theater? Did anyone show up in costume? Did the crowd really get into it, and react to any specific moments? If so, which ones?

Four 7pm screens, each about 3 quarters full. No costumes. We had Star Trek shirts on and I saw one other person with a DS9 shirt. The crowd, (and ourselves) was laughing a lot and applauding at a few places.

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

^ I didn't have any trailers on my showing either (non IMAX) - I assumed it was because it was the first one.

Re: Movie Experiance (Spoilers maybe)

We have so many threads about the movie, but what about the movie going experience. Did people laugh, cheer, groan? Did you meet anyone. What were the trailers you saw before the movie and how packed/empty was it when you went. The movie itself is only half the fun. One of the reasons I wanted to go last night was to take advantage of the other half, the atmosphere.

So for me, I was very surprised the theater was half empty. I expected a lot more people there but for some reason it still felt just right. There were no disruptions from the phone or anything, and it just was a calm but still lively evening. I did meet this one guy though who is a DJ and he seemed very energetic. He was on the edge of his seat the whole time and it actually seemed a little crazy.

As for reactions to the film. people cheered when they saw the Title, old spock, (I got goosebumps) and at some other moments. At the end, there were some applause (I don't really understand the idea of applauding a movie, unless I was going to an event and there were people who were actually part of the movie were in the seats. As for the people who work at the theater, I appreciate what they do, but it is their jobs and I wouldn't applaude them after a movie like Transformers either.) and some cheers.

The trailers I saw were Year One (Which looks funny as heck), Night at the Museum II, Transformers II, Land of the Lost, Terminator: Salvation, and GI Joe. I was a bit surprised as to the comedies that were featured and wondered to my friend, "Is Star Trek a comedy?" At the end of the movie, I realized why.

I just posted my answers to these questions in a thread with a time stamp prior to yours.

I'll second that. I like to watch a lot of films alone, but this is one of those few movies where I loved the buzz from the audience around me, to know that there were people jst as excited and entertained as I was.

On the costume front - forgot to say, none in Glasgow. The closest was me wearing a red shirt. Which was funny in my head alone :p

I hear what you're saying and I used to kind of enjoy that when I was younger but these days I have grown more curmudgeonly. For me, the vest first time I see a movie kind of colours it forever in my mind - how I felt, was I supressing the urge to rip out the spine of the arsewipe who keeps kicking the back of my seat, was I distracted by rattling of plastic wrap, mobile phones and chattering?

There are just too many bariables these days that can go into ruining the movie-going experience for me so I don't go as much. Well, that and the fact that I don't have a huge urge to see as many films these days because I've seen it all before!

Edited to add: Perhaps not so much a curmudgeon as I have a lower tolerance for how other people impact on me. IRL I am a very considerate person and treat others with respect and how I would like to be treated. One of my faults is, I expect the same tretment in return and when I don't get it, I go all kinda Green Rama!!! ;)
