Cringe Trek

I will one-up you.
All pretentious, self-righteous dialogue from Picard and Riker in season 1 of TNG, and its holdovers found in season 2.

...because it makes me cringe.

I always cringe at Galt's costume in "Gamesters of Triskellion."

Honestly, almost all of those costumes are cringeworthy-crap in that episode. Directly out of "Amazon Women on the Moon"

Alternate Universe The Price is Right
Barker "Pull a $100 bill out of my pocket" Barker might have been a little more cringy than Galt, and Shahna was no Anitra Ford.

I don't recall much of that from season 2. From the first season, Picard says stuff like "we've grown out of our infancy" and Riker puts down the 20th century stowaways in The Neutral Zone. I think those lines reflect Gene Roddenberry's fantasy utopia, which he clung to for comfort. The irony is that Roddenberry was athiest but he too needed dogma.

TOS costumes were still usually better than TNG Season 1 costumes. I'll take tinfoil bikinis over the costumes in most early TNGs anyday.

I was specifically thinking of "The Battle," where Riker and Picard start preaching to the war games coordinator about the purposes of starfleet. He's like "then why am I here?" and they're like "well...umm... recent threats n'stuff..."
That scene makes me cringe. Sometimes Pulaski does, too.

Thats Peak Performance. Picard opposed the war games until he saw the need to prepare for the Borg. The Federation was resting on its laurels before the Borg.

Leeta's whimpering in Favor The Bold(DS9) makes me cringe. So much about that episode is cringeworthy.

TOS costumes are better, but tinfoil bikinis are not OK. Give me TNG.

Once again the Skant. I think I understand what it (Rodenberry) was trying to show. I think it was meant to show that genders were equal in all things, but it was still cringe-- it just didn't work. The fact that it was so obvious is what makes it cringe.

We should have seen Picard, Riker, and Worf in one of those!

The Discovery costume designer mentioned a background male in a skant would appear in Disco S2 but it never happened.
