News Coronavirus Pandemic Information and Support Group

My wife's sister-in-law lost her oldest brother the past Saturday (12-05-2020) to covid. Great guy who has owned an operated a pizza place in McKinney, TX since 1969. Gonna really be missed.

I understand, one of my Mom's cousins was lost last month.

She was a sweet-heart, that would not hurt a flea unless it was on a dog or a cat. ;)

The Bavarian biotech company Formycon has announced that a blocker they developed against SARS-CoV-2 has proven to be effective in treating CoVID-19 patients. The drug, a fusion protein, uses the ACE2 receptor, which many corona viruses (including CoVID.19) use to enter and infect cells, to bind itself to the virus. They are also hopeful this drug will prove effective against further mutations of the virus.

Edit: Bit of a face-plant on my side, SARS-CoV-2 is CoVID-19, so this drug was developed specifically against the current virus.

Sorry to hear of the losses and suffering people here have suffered, and here's hoping that the vaccines are both effective and available ASAP.

I need to ask: has anyone here had problems with their employer concerning covid issues? Not just a case of a business closing/badly impacted by the measures to counteract the virus (lockdowns, lost business), but employers being jerks to their employees in bad times?

Not employed (SAHM) but other family members are. Their places of employment have done very well in handling the need to work from home or to be on leave for quarantine or illness. I realize not everyone has been as fortunate as we have been, but there are good employers out there.

Germany goes into full lockdown on Wednesday, for at least until January 10.

So almost all shops will have to close down in the last week before Christmas. Obviously, the retail community is not happy at all (well, online retail will be very happy, actually), but the numbers did not go down after the partial lockdown.

Hair salons, beauty and massage parlors, tattoo studios, and similar establishments will be closed. Medical practices, physio-therapists and other medical establishments will stay open.

Schools and Kindergartens will be closed, as well, with only a limited day-care service provided for the children with parents who can't stay home.

Private meetings, too, are extremely limited, with only up to five people above the age of 14 from two different households are allowed to meet. Children under the age of 14 are not counted, so for example if you have to families of two parents each and altogether seven children under 14, that's okay.
From Christmas Eve till the second Christmas Day (December 26, or Boxing Day, if you prefer), these restrictions will be loosened to allow for family members to meet during Christmas. That's up to four people above the age of 14 from outside the household. Not counted are children (again), legal spouses, as well as family members. So, pretty much, celebrate Christmas as usual, but only with up to four strangers.

Drinking in public areas is forbidden during lockdown.

As for New Year's, there will be no fireworks sold this year, and gatherings in public areas are also forbidden.

There may be religious gatherings, but the 1.5 meters distancing has to be enforced, and masks are mandatory. Also, congregational singing is not allowed.

I expect that we in the Netherlands will also going in lockdown next wednesday. I only hope that the schools will remain open, otherwise we will have problems with work etc.

Virginia is on a late night curfew until January 31st. Governor Northam has issued an order that nobody can be out and about between 12 Midnight and 5 A.M. unless they're traveling to or from their job or traveling by vehicle, which means that all late night restaurants will be closed down between those hours. Northam also reduced the number of people who can gather together at any one time from 25 to 10 so this puts a damper on any Christmas celebration plans for local communities.

I'm actually in one of the regions where it will only last for two weeks, and it's kind of ironic since we were just moved to Green status. But I understand the reason for it, in preventing travel to regions that have lower case numbers.

this is a great holiday gift for those of us who are serious about social distancing... I am sure shooting fireballs from our hands should keep people over 6 feet away--- :)

A Roman candle fight?

Ya' had to be quicker w/ the M-80's, they have short and quick fuses when you are blowin' up old model cars. :D
