News Coronavirus Pandemic Information and Support Group

Zoom and Skype can only go so far before people start to fatigue. For several weeks, we Zoomed with a big group of friends every Friday night for a couple of hours. Over the past three weeks, the numbers have dwindled and last week we hopped on, said hi and then bailed.

Well, that's understandable. I think we tend to get tired from sitting around a computer more than we would in person too. There's something about personal interaction that gives us a natural high.

Conversely, we met with a couple a couple weeks ago and had a social distance picnic out on the lawn and we talked, ate and drank for two hours. And it was AMAZING. It was so refreshing to have actual face to face contact.

That'd certainly be awesome. If everyone did that and observed all the precautions, I think there'd be absolutely no issues.. Sadly, most will not and it gets to be the zombie horde mentality in action.

The idiots that were out enmasse this past weekend are going to ruin any kind of "getting back to normal" for the rest of us.

Yeah, that's my fear. Any kind of traction that we've established via the isolation orders will be undone if it continues like this.

In my district, despite there being many who've had it, we only have two deaths. And the amount of cases appear to be slowing. There have been no known cases today.

Can you imagine this generation having to deal with the life altering changes that some of the past generations went through, like those who went through 5 years of WWII, when this gen can't deal with a few months of lockdown inconvenience with their phones, tablets, food, gaming and the internet, which gives them the total sum of all human knowldgeat their finger tips......but all that just seems to be asking too much from them.

Yip, just get the fucking pubs open, that's all most are concerned about in this generation
I also get that people have been cooped up, and some might feel morbidly depressed, or even suicidal, but I don't accept that the vast majority of people necking beers while listening to banging trance music on beaches fall into that category.

I wouldn't bet on that.

ETA: Look, I'm not saying we should go back to normal, but I'm also hesitant to prescribe a one size fits all option, when not everywhere is the same. The area I live in is highly rural, and in the 5 counties that make it up there have been 77 case and zero deaths to date.

Not saying people on the beaches are not selfish. I just totally understand where they are coming from too and hope that we can get past one size fits all solutions.

one size fits all solutions.
When has that ever served our population well?

What we should come away from this with, is that the VAST majority of people who die from it (Like 90% or something right?) are health deficient already. That might even just mean vitamin deficient, or hypertensive. Little things we never worried too much about, because there's always a new FDA approved pill on tv, with 48 side effects, that you can get a doctor to prescribe. We rely on the advancement of medicine to combat our terrible health practices, & that is a shit plan

Instead of figuring out how we should curtail society for the foreseeable future, we need to be thinking long & hard about how we take care of ourselves, & the way we see to our seniors, or neither will be a concern for much longer.

& as a healthcare worker, I'd feel a shitload more comfortable if we weren't relying on outsourced manufacturing for the near entirety of our medical supplies, or we are literally inviting a day when we go down because we are too reliant on others for our well being. Outsource our sneakers, & gizmos or whatever... fine, but not the life giving supplies we'll need in a crisis like this. That shit is OUR lifeline. We shouldn't be holding our hands out, when the shit hits the fan like this

I am beginning to believe that the Coronavirus doesn't so much rely upon infecting people's lungs for propagation but that instead it rather specializes in Covidiots as an infection vector.

Btw, whoever coined the word covidiot ought to get the Nobel Price for Literature. I've seldom seen a more apt expression.

My country under lockdown for months now.

Starting on Friday Governor Northam is mandating that all Virginians wear facial coverings indoors in public places except in cases of health-related issues that require it to be removed and when one is eating and drinking. Predictably this going over well with the people who think that even wearing a mask in public is the Soviet invasion in Red Dawn.

I had no idea you are from Singapore! My brother got married there =) Are you under a strict lockdown or are you permitted to go to the botanical garden? Judging by the pics my brother sent me it's beautiful.
What are the infection rates in your country like? You've had a longer lockdown than most of us had and your experiences might tell us what to expect.

I had a chat with a doctor from the local psychiatrical clinic yesterday and she said that with Corona they have now set up a special phone line and therapy programme for people who are afraid of Corona or who's relatives are infected.
That service comes at a cost for the usual clienteel: a therapy against anxiety or depression is not available within the next 2 years. Patients who are so depressed that they are suicidal have to be admitted to the clinic as in-patients. No out-patients till June 2022.
With the local therapists it's similar: no therapy before 2021 available.

Well, this is encouraging. :(

Roanoke is my home city and we're currently ranked second nationally for daily growth rate in deaths.

We were one of the first countries to be hit and that is why our lockdown has been longer than many countries. The Government does not even use the term lockdown for it. They call it circuit breaker.

Singapore is currently under a second wave of corona virus outbreak. This wave mostly affected the foreign workers living in dormitories. The dormitories are usually crowded and hence the covid-19 spread quickly there. The outside community spread has slowed down greatly.

The infection rate is currently 33 249 cases with 23 dead.

The government plans to lift the circuit breaker in three phases. But it will be a year at least before we return to normal. Air travel will be curtailed for 1 to 2 years at least.

these are wise precautions! I wish our government would stick to the same rules. Unfortunately, here the retailers have revolted and forced the government to lift the emergency rules prematurely. A case of egocentric blackmail :(

We have less than 24 hours to go until Virginians are going to be required to wear facial coverings indoors in public settings. The meltdowns over this are already at a fever pitch so it's hard to imagine them getting much worse, but the lockdown crybabies will find a way.
