News Coronavirus Pandemic Information and Support Group

And the other thing I don't understand is the idea that exactly the same number of people will get infected whether we social distance or not... So if I stay home 90% of the time, I am just as likely to get sick as if i was going out partying with thousands of people every night? It'll just take longer? Very comforting thought...

Don't push mathematical models too far. But, even if that were true. Do you want to get sick during a fast spike that leaves you with no ventilator, should you need it? And, if you end up being in the tail of a long drawn out Gaussian curve, you might have a vaccination by then, or the virus might be weaker by then. The alternative view is the sooner you get it, the sooner you get over it, (assuming you survive, which is very likely) and then you are immune for quite a while, and become a free bird. Personally, I'd prefer to take my chances later. There is always a low probability tragic event looming in our futures. This one is only worse than the others because we are thinking about it.

So apparently the White House wants to deploy the military along the Canadian border during the pandemic, in order to help prevent COVID-19-infected Canadians from sneaking across into the United States.

Even though the U.S. now has the highest number of cases in the world, and has become the new epicenter.

Twitter, of course, responded as Twitter does.

In happier news, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau has now apparently tested negative. (I think there has to be two negative tests before someone is officially cleared?)

Who is ready for insane conspiracy theories on Twitter about this? They abound for anyone who ends up recovering.

On a side and lighter note, There was a virtual pandemic outbreak in World of Warcraft back in 2005. Infection specialists were interested in this virtual outbreak because it allowed them to study human behaviour in a virtual world wrecked by an infectious disease.

Follow all recommended instructions with a sense of duty.
The key is for everyone to do their best to delay the ramp ups and peaks for as long as possible so that systems can be in place to handle all cases in a compassionate way.

Yep, pretty much what I've been doing. I consider it a civic duty. I've been telling everyone who asks that it's not so much about me, but everyone else, and it's not so much different from my flu shot policy. I just try not to get bogged down in the details as that just tends to drive up worry.

And crookedddy, if it makes you feel any better, we're all in the same boat here. Albeit a very big boat so that we don't have to feel too crowded.

Oh boy, why would a Canadian want to cross over into the States at this point? I don't get it?

Johnson is a horse's ass but I hope he recovers. Nobody asked for this pandemic.

Does it? I would imagine that, not only is every fatal case different, but surely there is a delay in the infection to death. A lock down by it's very definition has to work as the virus doesn't move, it's people that move it.
But lockdowns have to have exceptions, or people starve. And apparently with the exceptions thousands of people will continue to get sick...

But it has to be better than simply letting this rip through the population unabated surely? No one said this was going to be easy or some magic bullet, but the alternative is much, much worse.
