"During the pandemic, it has become increasingly evident that people with cardiovascular disease and obesity are at a much higher risk of developing very severe, even fatal COVID-19 disease. Researchers at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden have identified some metabolic processes that SARS-CoV-2 uses to attack lung tissue. The results, which are published in Molecular & Cellular Proteomics, could one day be used to treat COVID-19, and potentially for other viruses like the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus and HIV-1."

    Some other ideas

Could some vaccines drive the evolution of more virulent pathogens? Conventional wisdom is that natural selection will remove highly lethal pathogens if host death greatly reduces transmission. Vaccines that keep hosts alive but still allow transmission could thus allow very virulent strains to circulate in a population. Here we show experimentally that immunization of chickens against Marek's disease virus enhances the fitness of more virulent strains, making it possible for hyperpathogenic strains to transmit. Immunity elicited by direct vaccination or by maternal vaccination prolongs host survival but does not prevent infection, viral replication or transmission, thus extending the infectious periods of strains otherwise too lethal to persist. Our data show that anti-disease vaccines that do not prevent transmission can create conditions that promote the emergence of pathogen strains that cause more severe disease in unvaccinated hosts.

I'm not surprised. Even early on, they were saying that giving everyone their first-doses first was a good idea for the general population.

There was a lot of criticism initially with the UK approach of delaying the 2nd dose. The argument was that two people with 50 percent protection was better than one with 80%

As time went by there was evidence that a delay actually increased immunity.

Probably a gamble but one that seems to have been worth taking.

Yeah, agreed. And honestly, given the fact that Canada had trouble with supply at the time, I don't know that any other options would have been viable. We stuck it out, waited a long time for our first doses and with the country at 80% vaccinated, we seem to have come out ahead.

My double jabbed wife tested positive yesterday with a LFT. Had a PCR this morning but she is a bit 'bunged up and coldy'.

My test was negative, hope stay that way as due to get booster on Thursday as have a rare blood cancer and take drugs which mean I'm severely immunosuppressed.

Thank for the best wishes, my wife is much better, she was poorly in the week but doing much better now.

I have tested each day and been negative and no symptoms which is great, I think it's due to the vaccine and reckon I'll be ok now.

Went for my flu jab and got offered a Covid booster jab as well, so naturally I took it. Given that I work in a food retail of course I'm going to take it to reduce my risk.
