Constitution REDUX

Jefferies

Captain
Captain
The model you can see below is a “what if” version of the Constitution Class refitted in the 24th Century. The Cony is my favorite overall design and I would have loved to have seen her on the modern shows. Alas that never happened. So what if this class had been de-mothballed and upgraded? Now, this premise is neither original nor very creative and it has been done before, which I realize, but this fact does not preclude eye candy ;). The model below has a somewhat strange history, at least for this board I guess. It originated as a mod for the computer game Starfleet Command 3, which is the reason for the low poly count and low res textures. I must also confess that I am not responsible for the modeling. All I did was redress and slightly edit an existing model to make it fit the visual style of late 24th century Trek. What I especially like about this model is the elegant saucer section. The dorsal side is sloped outward instead of inward and the bottom has been flattened with the outer rim slightly elevated.

When or if you comment on this model keep in mind that I cannot make significant changes, due to a lack of skill with modeling software. So if you suggest too complicated improvements I probably won’t be able to follow them up.

Also I am a new-timer and have never really posted art related stuff before. So if I have made any mistakes for example with the credits please let me know and be civil about it ;).

Oh yeah, in case any one was wondering, I named the ship after the place I’m from, which just happens to also be the name of one of the original Conys :).

i like it, specially the lighted up nacelles. It shows the lines instantly recognizable as a Connie while bringing her up to date

That would have made a perfect 1701-A. It looks like a Constitution upgraded with Excelsior tech.

Very nice... The only criticism I have is that 24th-century starship designers seem to like either (1) a much thicker neck connecting the saucer and engineering hulls or (2) eliminating such a tenuous connection altogether. What if you bulked up the neck just a little, especially since the saucer is a more massive Excelsior-shaped one? What if the neck looked a bit more like that on the Ambassador class?

You are right about the neck thing I suppose and it might actually not look too bad. To test your idea I have made an aft view with a fat neck, but I have no clue how one could design the front part.

Very nice work. :techman:

I also think it's be a good idea to fatten up the neck, though it's a bit hard to see in that rear shot. I'd suggest you take another cue from the Excelsior, and create a slimmed downed version of her neck for this Connie refit. That sounds like the way to go.

And, just to be nick-picky, maybe smooth out the nacelle a little, give them a more rounded-24th Century feel.

But, hey, it's your project, and if you think it's fine the way it is, I agree. :D

I think the busy-looking assembly around the lower saucer dome should be omitted. If you look at the Enterprise-C, the bottom of the saucer is smooth. I think the connecting neck might also be smoother and a little thicker, to absorb the photon torpedo banks so they don't jut out.

Other than that, it looks like Warp 9 excitement! :)

I think your model has beautiful, graceful lines that bring a contemporary feel to a beloved classic design. I am particularly fond of Beauty Shots #1 & #2. I would use them as wallpapers if they were large enough for my 1680x1050 widescreen.

Magnificent work!

Looks great. At least you thought of this because I don't think anyone else has. Can't wait to see more stuff.

For making the neck thicker, why don't you use a teardrop cross-section type? With the fatter end near the torpedo launchers and the thinner portion pointed aft. It doesn't have to come to a sharp point on aft, just like an off-central oval. Am I making any sense?
