Constitution Class Refit (High Resolution model)

That's good I hope? :D

Anyway, started on the neck:

And a full body shot, because why not :p

Yes. That was an Oh Man! Not and Aww man:weep:.

But I was just point out that the original Constellation model was very white compared to the original Enterprise. And that view looking down on it reminded me of shots from "The Doomsday Machine."

Aztec on the underside is done. I'll work on navigation dome and deflector next. I'm going to get all the main patterns in before coming back for details as that's more time consuming. It'll also give me a chance to fix a few details.

Also, @uniderth this one is for you ;)

Yeeeessss! It is glorious!

I'm glad you guys approve what I've done so far :) I thought I would be able to get through the entire engineering hull today, but the deflector took quite a while to get all those panels done. I think the result is great though. Really happy with how this turned out. Will look even better when I get the rest of the textures for engineering in.

BTW, first shot is just to show the Navigation dome textured.

Ha! I'm finishing up my deflector texture now!

Looks great. Are you going more for an Enterprise-A or Refit scheme? I notice you've got some details of both mixed in.

Seems like we are keeping up with each other then  Looking forward to seeing yours!

Thanks! Actually, I'm kind of mixing both on purpose. The idea is to be able to render them both, as well as a few other variants. I know the Ent-A has a few different panels underneath engineering and on the undercut below shuttle bay, so I'll have to model those in. The registry and all text are actually decals, so I can change those quite easily. So anyway, I'm trying to texture this in a way that works for both versions. The Ent-A had some of the green details painted blue though, but that's easy enough to change in Substance Designer.

@Donny after you mentioned the deflector details, I decided to take a closer look. Apparently some of the reference I was using was wrong. Anyway, I altered so it looks closer to the original refit now.

Also finished engineering hull. Pylons and nacelles should be fairly quick to do tomorrow, I hope. Here's a couple of shots and a general shot of how the ship looks.

Well, I finished texturing the last couple of parts:

Now I have to tie a few loose ends. Decals for the various text as well as a couple of pieces that I think I need to redo. The overall textures might need some tweaking still, but I'm very happy with what I have so far. Couple of full body shots:

Continued beautiful work! A couple of small recommendations/observations:
  • I believe the inboard grilles of the nacelles are of a different pattern than the outboards. Right now, they look like all four are outboard grilles. The inboards should have thicker lines and glow either blue or purple.
  • I'm sure you know this, but the starboard side of the secondary hull is missing a considerable amount of detail (windows, docking ring, decals, etc.)
Kudos for putting the main docking doors on the port side of the primary hull. You'd be surprised how many folks who model this particular ship think it's a bilaterally-symmetrical detail. Overall, it's one of the best ones out there. I'm having a hard time picking between yours and Donny's!

Hmm, I see the correct grilles of the nacelles (both inboard and outboard) and the starboard side has all the details as the port side. Is your monitor by chance too bright and washing out those details?

This really just FEELS like the Enterprise. I'm not sure why that is. Gorgeous.
Thanks! That means I'm on the right track then ;)

The grills are different. Please see the second render on my last post. If you zoom in you'll see they have the different patterns. I haven't done the glow yet. One of the missing details.

They are all there. Just hard to see because of the glare and reflection of the light. Possibly your monitor has the brightness/contrast settings a bit off.

Thank you sir! That's high praise :) I took a few liberties in places because I'm trying to build it as if it was a real starship, and not just a reproduction of the studio model. Hopefully they are hard to spot ;)

You know, I have to agree with 137th Gebirg here. Watching both you and Donny work on these is extremely cool. I am starting to learn to model, and I just sit here and try to absorb as much info as I can reading all these threads...

It's cool to see where we approach something similar and where we diverge, seeing that we differ in our goals for our end results (I'm aiming for mid-poly and game-ready, whereas Viper's is high-poly and aimed towards a fully detailed VFX model), workflow, and our choice of details.

Sure enough! I zoomed in real close and saw what I thought was missing. My apologies for not giving it a closer look.

With regard to the grilles, I guess I'm more used to the (possibly incorrect) version of the nacelles that show a more pronounced and flatter detailing on the inboard side. Kind of like this:
