Constellation Class Starship

Mhmm... the hangar itself looks good, but I think your proportions are way off (at least in relation to the portholes and the bridgedome).

Yeah, the bridge has been bothering me too -- it looks too tall and bulbous. The bridge should be exactly like that of the refit E, so perhaps those blueprints and photos should be consulted.

The bridge-module is perfectly okay.

I've borrowed one of the little men from my Sternbach runabout model and put it in the bay for size comparison, I'll run off a render on that tonight.

I'm probably going to be putting that runabout in the hanger at some point too.

This should kill two birds with one stone.

Love the open hanger shot. The interior lighting looks terrific. The whole model's looking great!

How large to you plan the shuttlebays to be? Are the all connected? Do people have a hard time getting from the port side of the ship to the starboard?

Does anyone know the exact role that the Stargazer (Constellation-class) was meant to fill? From the copious shuttle bays I'd imagine it as some sort of science/survey ship. During a time of war it could fill an emergency carrier roll, possibly?

I don't have the magazine w/me, but the "semi-official" word I seem to recall from an article in "Star Trek: The Magazine" written my Mr. Rick Sternbach states that it's meant to be a long-range exploration cruiser. There's really only one shuttlebay - located in the bow - and the others are research bays, IIRC. I don't recall all the details nor do I remember the Volume/Issue number, obviously, but seem to recall it being towards the end of the magazines run. It's a pretty detailed article and I highly recommend getting your hands on the issue if you can find it at a reasonable price.

Out of curiosity, are the bay doors numbered that way in the prints you're using as reference, biotech?

The naval engineer in me (okay, granted it's waterborne, not 'Starfleet') would've numbered the starboard numbers with odd numbers, and the port side bays with even numbers to follow the typical present-day numbering conventions...

Still, I can live with either way. Very nice looking! Love the shot of her in orbit!

Cheers,
