I'm a little surprised by own non-reaction to it. I'm mildly curious, it looks nice enough but doesn't really excite me (nor do I hate it, just kinda...eh:shrug:). Maybe some longer scenes with some context might change that. I'm surprised that it looks as much like Enterprise as it does though I suppose it should.

The Kilingons will take a little time for me to get used to. I am used to the "Worf looking" Klingons. Tell me who are the "Ancient Klingons?"

I actually don't mind the updated visuals. But I hope the show will have those ingredients that made Trek so great: optimism about humanity and the future, some fun adventure, and some thought provoking scifi concepts. And some seriousness is ok but I don't want the show to be super dark and serious all the time. Basically, I don't want Stargate Universe or nuBSG.

You know what? As to the 'JJ Verse' look of that Bridge in the promo:

Since the U.S.S. Kelvin was built and LAUNCHED in the PRIME UNIVERSE. (Remember the timeline didn't diverge until Nero's ship appeared), so again, the U.S.S. Kelvin as depicted - Bridge and all - flew IN the 'Prime Universe' timeline.

Thus, if the ship depicted in the ST: D promo is from that same period IE the 2230ies (and it looks old enough and has design elements from the NX-01 in the Saucer section and Deflector) - then that Bridge is 100% consistent with a Prime Universe Bridge from the 2230ies. ;)

well it looks promising. High production values. I am a little put off by the fucking bulky flip communicator. No way in hell we would use tech like that in 20 years let alone 220. Please don't have exploding consoles.
Just keeping it in line with established history"
From "Enterprise"
From "The Cage"

Whether or not it's a good Star Trek show or not will be in our own eyes, but my eyes are saying this looks like a darn good scifi TV show, Star Trek or not.

Agreed. We haven't seen a star trek TV series since 2005. HDTV was just starting to become standard in TV shows.

Everything looked like a TV series(duh) Even Enterprise for all it's trying to change things looked like a TV show on a network.

Now we have HD in everything and shows don't look so much like a TV series. They look like mini movies due to better camera's

We can't go back to 480p "Voyager" level effects and TV standards.

I was surprised how strongly the uniforms, ship interiors, etc. reminded me of Enterprise. I guess that's how they're getting across the "prequel-ness" of the series. Not pre-Cage, but post-Enterprise.

Michelle Yeoh's captain seems so much like the traditional Starfleet ideal -- "Starfleet doesn't shoot first" -- that I suspect she won't last long and our hero will decide that a more hard-nosed approach is required to survive, and that's where all the talk of "grittiness" comes in.

Honestly, though, my strongest impression was that I could be watching any generic Star Trek-ish science fiction TV show. Maybe that's because it seemed kind of flat to me. It satisfied my curiosity, but it didn't rock my world. Still, you can't judge the whole show by the trailer.

Same here. So far I still havent emotionally connected to this new show. It still leaves me cold.

I have responded more emotionally to the Orville trailer. It feels more Star Trek to me.

Long time lurker, finally joined. So, I'm also one of the old timers. Watched TOS from the beginning, and was pretty much resigned to the fact that I probably wouldn't be alive when and if Trek ever made it back to the small screen. With that said this trailer removed any trepidation I had around Discovery.

The only down side for me anyway, was I had pretty much been coasting along patiently waiting. Signed up for CBSAA back in Nov last year. All was good. This trailer sent all that crashing to the ground. I really can't wait to see this show. Looks really promising, and I'm really interested to see how the cast start to settle into their characters, and begin to own them. As someone already said: It's a good day to be a Star Trek fan. Cheers all.

Same here (lurker) super excited to get new trek. I watched it with my daughter, not that she will remember cause she's 1

Well that was certainly better than I expected.

Curiously there are no good shots of the Disco herself besides that of her whooshing out of the clouds, which isn't that good since you don't get a clear view of her. Even if it looks radical.
