News Complete 1st Season to Air on CBS terrestrial in Sept

Two more bits of news:

The last 3 episodes have held strong at the higher viewing figure, with the last 2 at 1.85 and 1.89 million.

I've been interested to see what the +3 and +7 ratings might be and we saw our first one: last week there were almost 2.6 million viewers in the +3 ratings.

It's pretty amazing that it's getting these ratings for a show widely available all over the world and in this timeslot, with new episodes also hitting the top 10 on Netflix in over 70 countries during the week.

RAMA

The question is, what is Discovery’s competition at that time. I believe the first half of the show is typically up against the last bit of Thursday Night Football. But there hasn’t been a game for 2 weeks due to Covid issues.

But I don’t know what else is on TV at that time.

I would be curious to see the breakdowns by quarter hour.

OK, this week CBS showed the last season 1 episode. Seems like it is going to be replaced in the lineup next week with another Kurtzman produced show "Clarice".

Back in 1990, it was quite a breakthrough for TNG to exceed three seasons, which TOS failed to do. Once DISCO gets its fifth season, it exceeds ENTERPRISE.

After that happens, I look forward to how Midnight's Edge will spin DISCO as a failure. Will the goalpost be "if it doesn't reach seven seasons, it failed"? Or perhaps after it finishes with a seventh season the goal post will be moved to "Yeah, but it didn't reach 176 episodes, so FAIL".

At some point it will be considered a failure because they only made five movies before moving onto the blockbuster Captain Tilly franchise.

I really don't understand people like this. It's fine not to like something, you don't need to spin it as an objectively bad failure to justify not liking it.
I only started to notice the phrase "objective opinion" when THE LAST JEDI came out and broke a lot of fans. Ever since that film, it was no longer enough to just simply like or dislike something, you have to present your opinions as if they were factual and indisputable. It's a way to discourage discussion.

Yeah same. These days, a lot of people make the media they consume a central part of their identities, so if you like something they don't like or vice versa, you might as well be attacking them personally.

The part of fandom I don't get.

I'm betting the spin's on sheer episode count, completely ignoring how the television landscape has changed.

"Morons are saying the show is more successful than Enterprise when, in fact, Enterprise produced a larger number of episodes. There's a reason Discovery ended at 94 episodes... and that reason is failure."

It's cognitive dissonance, reality isn't reflecting what they believe. This is something that humans don't really deal with well, so either you change what you believe or just try to warp reality to fit your belief. For example, if you smoke cigarettes and learn that it's bad for you then you either quit smoking or find someway to rationalize why you're still doing it. For these people Discovery is the worst Trek and a complete failure. But it keeps getting renewed, getting spin-offs, and seems to fairly popular as far as Trek shows go. So instead of just realizing that it isn't for them and moving on, they create elaborate justifications to explain why it's terrible and a failure. Some have crafted an elaborate conspiracy where it's an attempt to destroy Star Trek itself.
