Common phrases used in trek

IAmAParrot

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Particularly Berman Era trek. I seem to hear these phrases used A LOT, but I only remember a few

"let's just say"
"another time/maybe next time"
"I'll keep that in mind"

And there's much more..anyone remmeber any good ones?

I counted "Dead in the Water" at least three times during Picard Season 3. Don't recall hearing that much before Enterprise. It was always "They've come to a full stop." or "She's a sitting duck." or some variation of drifting with power... "Dead in space" maybe?

I can't stop hearing it said in Reed's Mr. Tucker accent pisstake. Probably should keep my shirt on.

In the "The Beginning" script for Star Trek XI they say "don't screw the pooch" 3 times in 25 pages. I thought it was more.
"Photon Torpedos! Full Spread!" I'd reckon that's said at least 47 times.

47, or a calculation that uses a variation of it, appears A LOT in TNG and VGR. I know the reason behind it, and I actually kind of miss hearing it once in a while in the current era.

Some kind/type/form of was also used extremely often.

I remember when "THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR" first aired, Worf said, "That remains to be seen" four times at various conversations and for different reasons. I thought that was going to be his catch phrase for his time on DS9.

"If we could..." (technobabble engineering solution follows)
"Shields down to [number] percent."
"There goes the starboard power coupling!"

Speaking of technobabble...

Interferometric.

When I first heard that, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing they could have come up with. And I kept thinking that for over 25 years. I mean, just listen to Harry Kim say it in "THE SWARM". It sounds so fake.

Imagine my surprise when I discover that it's a REAL thing. It's been a couple years since I discovered this, and it still floors me.

I was curious, as I could only remember one, so I checked chakoteya.net's transcript and can only find two.

On the Defiant bridge when they were chased back to DS9 and in his quarters when talking to Martok. I know I heard it again, but I don't have to check at the moment.

So, am I to understand that they spoke a version of English in old Star Trek that utilized common expressions and phrases?

I know McCoy said to Charlie that he was '4 oh' after he examined him in "CHARLIE X". I believe that was an older expression that doesn't get used anymore.

I’ve got a bad feeling about this…

Umm… “like a _____ when it____”
