There are some commercials that actually make you want to buy the product or are just plain awesome. This thread, inspired by the long running "Commercials That Fail" thread, is dedicated to them.

AFAIK, the lyrics go something like this:

Some commercials are funny yes. However I try to avoid purchasing any products that I see advertised. I do my best to boycott any product that dares to interrupt my viewing. Those wasters of my time will hopefully never see a dime out of my pocket.

Nice attitude towards the organizations that pay for the programs you are watching. You should change the channel on your STB to a premium channel like HBO or Showtime and leave it there. Or disconnect the coax entirely and watch video disks.

Like I give a flying fuck about companies shoving shit in my face.

I bittorrent content that is not available in HD or is edited from it's original format. (IE Dr Who and SG Universe on the Space channel in Canada) I can instant watch Netflix shows/movies instead of subjecting myself to the commercial ridden versions that are shown on TV with commercials. I PVR the eastern feeds for all my TV shows (HD only) and skip the commercials. I still get to watch my shows (commercial free) before they are shown locally in my time zone. The only time I am stuck watching ads is during the news or live sports events. Those companies that advertise during those times get none of my business if I can help it. If I have to take a piss while a certain commercial is on then they just might get a few bucks from me because obviously the commercial gave me some relief.

Is it a hassle to do this? Nope. I watch what I want when I want. In the format that I want.


Sorry that this is so off topic. Go back to the funny ads. I do find some of them amusing...even if they guarantee that I will avoid their product.

One of my current favorites is the Geico commercial with the little piggy that went, "Whee! Whee! Whee!" all the way home. On the one hand, the tone of the pig is a bit grating, and yet his enthusiasm is infectous!

Generally, commercials don't do anything to sway me. However, KFC commercials always instantly put me in the mood. After they remind me, I'll usually swing by a KFC within a few days.

I think I've posted before on how much I love a good commercial. I really think they're underrated products. The level of emotional and psychological manipulation on display is often streets ahead of the programming they interrupt.

Why the hell should we care about that? The ad's already there. We are in no way obligated to even watch it, let alone buy whatever it's advertising.

It may not be allowed to discuss you-know-whats on this board, but as far as I give a crap, we should all shout from the rooftops "WE FAST FORWARD THROUGH TELEVISION ADS WITH OUR DVRs!!!!!"
