Re: Come on people - am I the only fan who can't drink Abrams' Cool Ai
And what if they decide to recast the crew of TNG? I mean why not after this movie? Let's starting looking for a Jonathan Frakes lookalike right now cause he is too old for Riker.
After this film? In the hands of JJ Abrams? You bet! I'm ready.
Lemme tell you a little story. Eight years ago I came to this board for the first time. And a more hard-core DS9 fan you'd be hard-pressed to find. I think you could get several other board members to confirm that quite easily, in fact.
And for that entire eight-year history, I have always maintained that I was
glad DS9 would never get a movie. Because I was 100% certain that B&B would fuck it up. And I didn't want DS9 fucked with. Not by them.
But after this film? If Abrams sees fit to ever use pieces of DS9 or a DS9 character in one of his Trek films? I would have NO reservations whatever.
So yeah...go get a replacement for Jonathan Frakes, if it's good for the story and good for Trek. Go get a replacement (and I NEVER thought I'd ever say this) for Avery Brooks if it's good for the story and good for Trek.
What I saw today in that theatre was spectacular. And clearly illustrated that Star Trek is bigger than ANY actor who was ever in it. Come to find out, even bigger than Shatner.
And to me, that is a good thing. Because it means that Trek will NOT die with the actors who played key roles in the past. It will LIVE. Hopefully for the rest of my life.
Not that their contributions should be forgotten. By no means. But the most important thing I took out of that theatre today was the realization that Star Trek can and will go on. And maybe....bigger and better than ever.
It can happen without William Shatner. It can happen without Rick Berman. It can happen without the frakkin' ghost of Gene Roddenberry, 'fer cryin' out loud.
The cast I saw today simply
rocked. And for the first time in a very long time, Star Trek, under JJ Abrams, produced a fun and super-exciting film that I was REALLY pleased to have spent money to see.
Yeah - you are entitled to your opinion. Absolutely. But personally, I'd at least give it a chance and go to actually SEE it before you form that opinion. At the very least, it might give you some credibility when you come to complain about it.
It's up to you, of course...cus it's certainly no skin off my nose. In my mind, you are the one who is missing out, by not giving it a chance. But hey...that is certainly your right.
