News Clone Wars spin-off-- The Bad Batch

Well, not Kanan, anyway. Based on how he reacted when he met the Clones on Rebels and the fact he didn't believe Rex when he said his chip was removed, I don't get the impression he was helped by any Clones after Order 66.
Well, there was that line in Rebels where he says something to the effect of "later on they said they had no choice, that they had chips that made them do it..." That's not something that happened in his comic series, so logically this means he did encounter some clones between those events and meeting Rex, it just didn't leave him with feelings of forgiveness and understanding...so it's a possibility, under the right circumstances.

Hm..... Still need to see season 7 of Clone Wars. But I'm a bit disappointed there's another show set in an era that's been explored quite a lot outside of the movies. Rebels, Rogue One, Fallen Order, The Force Unleashed.

There's been so much talk about Star Wars being able to do more than what we know in terms of eras, but apparently we keep going back to what is known.

Most of those titles take place in the five years leading up to "A New Hope". Solo takes place roughly in the very middle between "Revenge of the Sith" and 'A New Hope". Fallen Order takes place about five years after "Revenge of the Sith".

Bad Batch looks like it will take place starting at the end of the Clone Wars. Meaning the actual transition from the Republic to the Empire, and the end of the Separatists, or their transition into being the early rebellion against the Empire. This also means the Empire would be using almost exclusively clones as stormtroopers for the first season or two. Repainted Republic ships and equipment as well. There would be a lot of cleanup of Separatist forces in those years. A lot of reorganization to make the Empire what it was. The Moffs taking their stations. A lot of order needing to be brought to the Separatist worlds by the Empire now that most of their droid armies have been shut down by Darth Vader.

And then there are the other surviving Jedi and Vader's new Inquisitors. Some of this was covered by the Darth Vader comics, so that probably won't come up much. Ashoka's off into hiding and her story was at least partly covered in a novel. Rex's story about finding Gregor and Wolfe has not to my knowledge. Rex would be listed as KIA, so no one would be looking for him after the Empire finds what happened to that unit after Order 66. But there are stories to tell. Jedi that are accounted for, but not exactly when they were killed. Luminara Unduli was on Kashyyyk, same place the Bad Batch was in the unfinished Clone Wars episode arc (some place Yoda escaped from with the help of the Wookiees). We know Luminara didn't survive capture, but its not stated how she was captured. She's one that wasn't outright killed by the clones, being executed later on and used as part of a Jedi trap for years. Seeing that the Clones were not interested in capturing a Jedi, as their orders were to execute the Jedi for treason. Unless somehow Luminara was able to convince them she surrendered and thus they brought her in alive to be executed. Or she also managed to escape Kashyyyk, but was later captured by other Imperial forces.

Also on Kashyyk was Quinlan Vos, who's fate is unknown in Canon and Legends, even Luke Skywalker has heard rumors of Vos surviving Order 66 and the Purge in general.

It occurs to me that a clone heavy show would inherently be a very male character heavy show, so I wonder what kind of female characters they'll add for the sake of diversity? Probably some original characters, like their new boss/broker or other support staff like a medic, weaponsmith/blaster-runner if they're going the merc route. Maybe a spy type character since not even mutant clones can exactly infiltrate all that well.
Barris might be an interesting possibility. I know it's long been the assumption that she'd become an Inquisitor, but if that was where Filloni would have taken her character then the time to do it would have been in Rebels. What might be more interesting is if she has a kind of redemption arc with the Bad Batch.

IIRC Voss's name was on a list in the Vader comics of Jedi as yet unaccounted for (alongside Ahsoka, Jocasta Nu & Yoda.) So if he was on Kashyyykk as per the RotS deleted scenes & EU material, then odds are he escaped. The fact that Luminara was captured to me means that 1) she made it off Kashyyykk too, and 2) it was Vader that caught up with her.

Aren't there 2 books about Barris?
I don't know if those books covered order 66

Someone already speculated about the Martez sisters above, and back when episodes 5-8 of the final season of Clone Wars aired, there were a number of us that thought we'd end up seeing Trace and Rafa again someday in something else. It was a logical explanation for why that arc was selected to be part of the final 12 episodes.

I'm looking forward to this. It makes sense, from a CWs digital assets POV, and having them re-introduced with Imperial markings / colourings.

That might track. It seems to me The Siege of Mandalore was designed to be a film (and frankly I think would have been even better had they done that and dropped it on D+.

Pretty sure that someone was me and the context was just known underworld associated characters that might drop in for an appearance, not be part of the regular cast. It's not impossible though since a dedicated pilot and broker does seem to fit the bill for Trace and Rafa respectively. Still they seem a little too much like small fish to swing a crack commando squad. So...maybe. maybe not. Who knows?

As for that arc being chosen; I think that had more to do with giving the *bare minimum* look at what Ahsoka was up to between leaving the order and Mandalore. In that context inventing the Martez sisters as a window into the common people's view of the Jedi just made more sense than the quasi-love interest character they replaced.

Small side note that may or may not be relevant; given all the rumours of animated characters making the jump to live action post-RotJ it's worth keeping in mind that Elizabeth Rodriguez who played Rafa is about 40, which is about how old Rafa would be by the time of 'The Mandalorian'. Can't find a DOB for Brigitte Kali, but she looks more mid to late 20's (hard to judge though) but it's not an insurmountable age gap between the two, even given the characters are only a few years apart.

That episode can be placed during ROTS to post-ROTS, just like the Siege of Mandalore can. It can be shifted to take place during Order 66 as the teams backstory about why they are mercs and not Stormtroopers post-ROTS.

That would be my expectation.

Also see what becomes of Echo, who's the last of his team now. Echo might still have an inhibitor chip, depending on how badly the Separatists messed with him in captivity, So he could trigger off Order 66, yet somehow I think the Bad Batch might have faulty chips, if they have functional units at all, given their nature as basically mutant clones. But they are extremely effective.

Though the idea of an A-Team vibe amuses me. With Echo in the "Howling Mad" role (in some sort of Imperial rehab institution, but the team breaks him out....regularly, if they want to keep that joke). A batch of rogue clones don't warrant a Sith Lord or even Inquisitors, but there would always be some member on the new ISB or Moff that would want to track them down.

Honestly, I doubt they'll waste much screen time retreading Order 66 and RotS given that they literally just did that with Rex and Ahsoka. There's only so many times you can go back to that well.

I rather expect the show to start off either in the immediate aftermath or a year or so later.

The only reason I think they would do the Order 66 bit is because they already have a Clone Wars script for the Bad Batch on Kashyyyk with some pre-rendered animatics assents made, and probably some voice work done. Means work that is already done and paid for....might as well use it.

I see no issue with them doing flashbacks to Order 66. Why not?

I'm really excited for this show. I enjoyed the Bad Batch episodes of the last season of TCW, and I was worried that TCW's last season would be the last SW cartoon not made for literal 5 year olds (like Resistance and a lot of Rebels was). Something aiming for (presumably) the same audience as TCW is great, and since I liked the Bad Batch characters I'm definitely glad to hear about this show.
