Classic Who on BBC America

I really liked Colin's Doctor even though his stories were pretty damn weak. Revelation of the Daleks, though, is phenomenal. I adore that story.

I have never understood the appeal of Revelation Of The Daleks, I think it's vastly overrated and not very well done and the Daleks are just barely in it.

I wasn't aware the Daleks ever wore bear costumes. ;)

Anyway, I hope the McCoy stroy for this month is either The Curse Of Fenric or Rememberance Of The Daleks, both of which are excellent stories.

Depends on how official you want to get. Yes, it's Remembrance. I don't know if they've officially announced it, but ... They are doing those box sets of the stories and docs. They did one for 1-4, and another for 5-8, with the story, the documentary, and, well, nothing else. The info was up on all the DVD sites listing the content well before the Colin Baker story aired, with the list of the four stories, including RotD.

Looks like it's airing Saturday at 7PM this time. The listing scared me as it mentions the Rani but I guess that was just referring to the retrospective part of the special.

I finally watched Dr Who Revisited: Vengeance on Varos and wasn't terribly impressed. It just didn't hold my attention. And I've never been a fan of the Sixth Doctor.

Heh, I've seen Remembrance a couple of times but this is the first time I recognized Jeffrey from Fresh Prince. Should've known those Daleks were up to no good in the neighborhood.

I forgot this was on last night -- I've been too busy finishing up my manuscript that's due tomorrow -- but luckily my DVR caught it. I dropped in briefly and saw they did "Remembrance of the Daleks," which is a bit disappointing -- I wanted "Battlefield." But those were the two obvious best choices, so I'm glad they at least went with my second-favorite.

I had completely forgotten about last month's, so I set the DVR to record the 6th Doctor's special and then the all of the McCoy stuff (which I haven't seen yet).

Am in total agreement with those who said that Nicola Bryant has aged well. She still looks great and I enjoyed her interview segments the most.

:techman:

This special made me remember why the Seventh Doctor was at one time my favorite and that it began with Remembrance of the Daleks. I really agree with the points Moffat made about the Seventh Doctor, of how he started off very much the silly clown in his first series and then later became rather steely and someone to be feared by his enemies.

While Tom Baker was the most fun (to me at least)--were I a villain--McCoy's incarnation as the Doctor would be the one I'd least like to face. I'd like to think I might get something past Colin, what with the regeneration trouble reaching its height with him early on. I think the Doctor had some trouble with regeneration going all the way back to the spiders on Metabelius...

If all the other previous doctors were asked about who River Soong (in the new post-05' series), they wouldn't know.

But something tells me the Seventh Doctor would know...

Now, in the novel, there was mention about "The Other."

My only beef was with the Dalek design. The renegade Daleks should have the cream and gold look--from the Necros Daleks that Davros played with in Revelation--with the mainstream Imperial Daleks being grey--all the way back to the Kaleds.

But the Emporer Dalek always looked like that, so...

Now if they ever refresh this episode, Mr Briggs needs to redumb that first Dalek we see. I don't know whose voice that was... I don't think Leeson did that one. I loved the music. That holds up well.

That's true. Strange to talk about the appearance of the Daleks when that was what the story was about. I did notice Davros escape pod there at the bottom, and I think they red light on the dark and silver supreme Dalek wasanimated as being too dim. When it says "Advance" before going after the men who moved the Time Lord artifact.

I hadn't noticed that before.

The TV movie is next and I've always liked it and I love Pual McGann's Doctor. It's a shame that he only had the movie and only 3/4th's of the movie at that but I thought he did an excellent job as the eighth Doctor.

It's been quite a spell since I've seen the TV movie, so I'm looking forward to taking another look at it, though it will be on the other side of my vacation. Being that this installment was not part of the original BBC run of the show, the commentary should be interesting, I would think.
