Yeah boy! Chuck's been one the bright spot in the last few years of tv... Even when it's not the best it's been, it's still better than most on the boobtube.

Nice news. I'm still to watch season 3. One day I shall - not sure when.
The amazing thing to me is that NBC knows Chuck is not going to improve on that rating. It's only going to go further downhill. Aren't they in turnaround mode? Aren't they supposed to be brimming with confidence that their entire freshman slate can beat the pants off any rating Chuck will ever hope to glimpse, all the way up there in the stratosphere, or at least pretend to think that? What kind of message does it send to advertisers that they renewed such a low-rated show? FIRE SALE!!!
The only possible excuse is strategic - that they want Chuck to be the lead-in for Wonder Woman. Chuck's audience is small but the overlap with WW is likely to be very large.
Yet Wonder Woman is "doubtful" in the same breath that Chuck is renewed. This is like it's D-Day and Patton says, well I dunno. Maybe we should call up Hitler and ask if he'll accept a draw.
I just think the people at NBC love Chuck and don't want it to die.
NBC exec: "We can't cancel Chuck! I love Chuck!"
Exec #2: "I know! I love it, too! Can we keep it for just a little longer?"

That's gotta be it. It's a personal thing - that happens often enough at corporations, they're "businesslike" about 95% of what they do, but 5% is reserved for insane pet projects (and in my experience, it's more like 25%).
Maybe they've recognized that the writers and some of the cast of the show are valuable talents that they can't afford to alienate. Give Chuck another half season to wrap things up, and the writers and cast stick around for the next round of NBC shows.
Most of NBC's slate are low-rated shows that involve no particular amount of talent behind the camera or in front of it. Chuck is the exception. They're out of gas now, but give everyone new material, spread around several shows, and the results will very likely be good again.

I have a feeling Wonder Woman will become another Bionic Woman or Knight Rider, possibly even The Cape. NBC will just treat the property with the same kitsch they treated those shows.
No, Chuck is produced by Warner Bros, which makes the renewal a bit of a shock-to me. Shows not owned by corporate siblings tend not to receive the treatment Chuck has managed with it's ratings.

Hell, I love Chuck, so happy for renewal, but what happened to 17th precinct? I wanted to watch that!
It's already in the ground, now they are digging.
I loved the first 2 years but these last 2 have been a grind, I have the last 10 waiting on the Tivo because I just can't get excited for the same repeating story lines.
I approve of this idea.
But then I think most things would benefit from being set on a spaceship.
While I like the show, I don't think I would have minded if it ended after S4. It just feels like it's run its course and doesn't really have anything new to say anymore.
But I'll probably keep watching, anyway. Maybe they'll find a new angle that'll make it exciting again.

It really amazes how little success Ron Moore has had since BSG. You'd think after that people would be jumping at the chance to have him do a show for them.
17th Precinct was never in contention. From the earliest reports on the pilot viewings it didn't catch on.
Grimm was the one people were talking about, but even that didn't make the grade. It may have life as a mid-season show, but it's not definite.
Moore is overrated. BSG was a decent series--but after the first two seasons it was clear he had no idea where the show was going and it sputtered aimlessly about until the end. Plus all the praise he got obviously went straight to his head and the show became more and more pretentious and off-putting.
Besides BSG wasn't exactly a ratings winner--most people don't want to watch a bunch of angry, depressed psychotic characters wallow.
It was booted out of the running shockingly early in the pilot process. There must have been something disastrously wrong with the pilot. I heard it was "information overload" and "a mess."
RDM might have made the mistake of forgetting he was talking to broadcast execs, who loathe complication of any sort. Here's what could have killed it: trying to explain a lot of the magical backstory and rules of the universe, rather than jumping right into some exciting, dangerous scenario. You know how long Caprica took to ramp up and start to tell a story, like 14 episodes? On broadcast, you get 14 seconds.
And even though we might have heard of Jamie Bamber and Tricia Helfer, they're still nobodies in Hollywood. SyFy stardom doesn't really count. So the suits are looking at a boring, complicated show starring wrinkly old has-beens* (Stockard Channing, Esai Morales), that annoying girl from Smallville and a bunch of people from some cable show, and that doesn't impress them. I'd love to see the pilot someday. I'm really curious what went wrong.
*Has-beens is my guess how they're perceived, not my opinion of them!!! Channing and Morales were a major reason why I was interested in the show.
I think this season has been pretty fantastic personally, and can't wait for more.
I was certainly tiring of the show before, when the will-they-or-won't-they between Chuck and Sara was starting to get really tedious. But now that they're finally a COUPLE it feels like the show has taken on a whole new life.
No it may not be as fresh and original as it once was, but considering our only OTHER options nowadays seem to be either procedurals or freakin variety shows, I'll take it.
