Chris Pine appreciation thread

I did not know Chris is on the comment track! Thanks for that; I had no idea. I never listen to comment tracks unless I have insomnia. But I'll make an exception.

These are a couple screen caps from that scene where he took his shirt off in the outtakes.

"Come on....just let it happen".......*faints*

Just made some the other day, with tomatoes grown in the back yard -- we have it with all sorts of things, including breakfast. :) I've never used the food processor to make it, though.
We've chopped it both ways. Home-grown tomatoes; delicious. Everything is winterized here. It's pretty Christmassy.

Chris's recipe sounds good. Do you use jalapeños? I usually use green bell peppers. I like a purple onion.

It does sound good, but what kind of cheese did he say he put in? I use jalapeños, but just a few slices from a jar in a batch of about two pints of salsa fresca; a whole fresh jalapeño would be way too much, but one or two serranos can be a good stand-in. I've also seen a recipe which used green, orange and yellow bells. The list for mine usually looks something like this (adjust measures to taste):
8-10 tomatoes, diced
1 bunch cilantro, stemmed and chopped
6 cloves garlic, minced
8-10 slices jalapeño, minced fine
2 bundles green onions, sliced (including tops)
juice from 1 lemon (we have a tree but no lime)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
Stir together and let stand for an hour or so.

Someone posted on another board that Chris says the cheese is boursin cheese and that he pronounced it correctly. That is awesome. I love that he can cook.

I thought Chris said boursin, too; it's a good stand in for Mexican queso fresco, which gets a bad rap due to listeria or salmonella when it's not made with pasteurized milk. (Traditionally, queso fresco's made with raw milk.)

M', your recipe sounds terrific! Very tasty, indeed. YUMMY! A little bit of summer on a wintry day. We have snow this morning; it's a light blanket -- a first snow, very wet. I think I'm going to make Christmas cookies today to warm up the kitchen.

The only interesting thing this morning in the Google Chris alert was a review of "Carriers," which salient bit follows:

"...It’s disappointing to see how off the mark the Hollywood marketing machine can be sometimes. Properly marketed, this is a film that could have appealed to a wide audience and could have been moderately successful. With the current swine flu fear that’s sweeping around the world, it’s certainly as timely as any other film that’s in release right now. A bit of research revealed that the film was completed back in 2007, and because it was produced by Paramount Vantage — which no longer exists — it was shelved by Paramount. Most likely the only reason they’re releasing it now is to capitalize on Chris Pine’s new found fame with this summer’s release of Star Trek..."

So who is your personal favorite, Pine, Quinto, or Urban? I created a thread with that exact question here. (Titled: The ladies prefer...)

Hey Ghosty! For me it's Chris all the way. I think there may have been a poll thread somewhere in here, very early on...

Screen caps from the scene I always used to use for intermission at the theater. I was missing some good Chris shots.

In the Google Chris Pine daily alert, there's an MTV story (also posted in Trek news elsewhere here):
------------------

Chris Pine Despises One Certain Aspect Of Hollywood, So We (Naturally) Let Him Vent

by Eric Ditzian in Movies, Random Yet Notable

A couple weeks after "Star Trek" opened with a $75 million first weekend and Chris Pine went from largely unknown actor to global superstar, the 29-year-old actor found himself a target of the paparazzi, who convinced there was something going on between him and "The Hills" star Audrina Patridge.

A couple weeks ago, MTV News honored Chris as one of the people we're most thankful for in 2009, and during a wide-ranging conversation about the "Trek" franchise and the future of his career, talk inevitably turned to one thing Chris ain't so happy about in 2009: those pesky photogs that targeted him earlier in the year.

"I certainly despise them with all my soul," he said.

As prepared for the intrusion as he was before the blockbuster success of "Trek," Chris admitted there's truly no way to prepare for the reality of paps staking out your home and waiting to snap snap snap as soon as you emerge into daylight.

"In terms of the private life stuff, I understood what would or could happen because of my involvement in something so big, but you don't really understand it until it starts happening and people are waiting outside your house," he said. "And I live in an apartment on a busy street. It was pretty brutal when the movie first came out, and then it dies down and the paparazzi lose their interest and go after the next flavor of the day."

For all the hassle of increased media attention on his personal life, Chris characterized the tabloid spotlight as a fair trade-off, or as he put it, "the deal with the devil you make."

"I would say that artistically it's been everything I wanted," he continued." 'Star Trek' has afforded me the luxury of choice in terms of what I want to do and where I want to take my career," he said. "I don't know how long that will last for, but certainly right now I'm enjoying that immensely."

------------------

And Star Trek is chosen best movie of 2009 from the UConn Daily Campus newspaper.

Movie of the Year: 'Star Trek'

For a second year, a summer blockbuster takes the top prize, and for good reason. Much like "The Dark Knight" last year, J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" shows that summer popcorn flicks don't all have to be dumb, expensive special effects shows (ahem, "Transformers 2") as the film shines with its smart sci-fi plot that was designed to please both fans new and old to the series. Its young cast, led by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto as Kirk and Spock respectively, performs admirably as crew members of the Starfleet's USS Enterprise. Even Leonard Nimoy's cameo radiates with brilliance. No scene looks overdone, no lines seem unnecessary and no plot points seem stale. Abrams' and co. have made Trekkies out of all of us.

Here's all I have to say about Chris Pine...

Heh, that's a cute one!

Gawd, the lips in those Delta Vega pics! *fans*
Jeri, i really appreciate you giving us updates on a daily basis!!

I always wondered about that scene on Delta Vega... --did that 'pod' create that hole he has to climb out of, or did he just land in a hole?

You're welcome. Somebody was asking about the escape-pod hole the other day, and the hole is a function of landing on a glacier. Glaciers have unexpected holes all over the place and are really dangerous to hike on.

I didn't see any discussion either; just somebody asking about it, but no answer. I guess I didn't have time at the moment to go into it, so good thing you asked.

*right click, save image as...*

EDIT: Guess what one of my friends just bought me for no reason at all! The GQ magazine with Mr Chris Pine!
