Chris Pine appreciation thread

Ok, I just saw that the "Carriers" DVD release is for rentals first, and then it will be available later on for purchase. Looks like by February.

http://www.screamstress.com/2009/11/carriers-dvd-release/

If you missed seeing Paramount’s pandemic thriller Carriers, you’re not alone. The film had a limited theatrical release in the US and is going straight to DVD–set to drop for rental only (huh!?) on December 8. What’s up with films like this and Trick ‘r Treat not getting their just deserts? A film can’t be that bad when Stephen King says it’s “a beautiful thing to look at.” The DVD will be available for sale four to six weeks after its rental street date.

Reading all the info on the previous page. I didn't realize Christopher Meloni was in Carriers too. Twice as delicious now! That video game sounds interesting. I am really surprised they aren't doing a limited release (again?) of Carriers, what with Chris's newly found stardom.

Good news about the Carriers dvd coming out. Not my kind of movie but I am intrigued by that review. Maybe I'll rent it. Wish there was news about Small Town Saturday Night. The website still doesn't have any information on it. :wtf:

Here's another smiling Kirk picture.:)

So I got a GQ "Men of the Year" thread going about Chris Pine's "Breakout of the Year" from GQ as well as JJ and his teams "Power Players" of the year.

I hope this is just the beginning of Pine's awards and accomplishments in Trek.

From GC Magazine; Pine on his reluctance to play Kirk.
“I said, ‘Are you kidding?’ That’s the last thing I want to do,’ ” Pine says.

“I totally understood that feeling,” says director J. J. Abrams. “For a young actor, a part like Kirk has got lots of advantages but also plenty of disadvantages. When I called to offer him the part, he said, ‘You’re not going to make me wear spandex, are you?’ ”

It’s a truism that you’re rarely more charming than while interviewing for a job you don’t want. So Pine’s initial reluctance to become America’s next action hero may explain why he made such a thoroughly likable captain of the Enterprise—never devolving into a William Shatner impression, while still possessed of some essential Kirkitude. “When I watched the scene in which Kirk and Bones meet for the first time, I let out an actual sob in the theater,” testifies no lesser an authority than Leonard Nimoy.

Pine appreciates the quality of puffed-up self-parody that Shatner brought to the role. “You inflate Kirk and then you pop Kirk,” he says. And Pine’s version radiated a confidence—to look foolish, to get his ass kicked, to share the screen with other actors—reminiscent of early Harrison Ford or late George Clooney.

We've been discussing the GQ issue for at least two weeks; we've posted all the pictures and text. But I agree, I was thinking more people should be aware of it -- and the MTV News Thanksgiving award to Chris and JJ, too!

This is the bridge fight and Narada attack scene; once Kirk convinces Pike and Spock that Romulans are attacking, he basically has nothing to do in the battle except look handsome, since he's on academic suspension.

Vulcan is being attacked by Romulans!

I get it; you're a great arguer!

Jeri, those pictures are gorgeous. <sigh> I think I'm going to have to watch the movie again tonight.

Here are some fun pictures:

Thanks, Pam; I hadn't seen the red-shirt one. What's the "P" cap for? Phillies? I love that one where Chris and Bruce are laughing! :D

Today's mail bag is pretty full of outlets reposting stories we already had here in previous days, so I'll just post the new one. Local news from Chris's "Unstoppable" filming.

(Just FYI, there is a big discussion at the IMDb board about whether Chris could have met up with Olivia Munn while filming, and they are combing dispatches to find out where he and she were when it was claimed they were together. The consensus is that it is doubtful.)

Edit: Sometimes this source changes the URL, so I will post the whole story again. Link was: http://www.news-register.net/page/content.detail/id/531419.html?nav=51

Historic Bridge Ready for Closeup
By IAN HICKS Staff Writer
POSTED: November 25, 2009

There's certainly been a healthy dose of Hollywood intrigue in the Ohio Valley in recent weeks.

That trend continued Tuesday as filming of the major motion picture "Unstoppable," starring Denzel Washington, made its latest local stop - the Market Street Bridge, which connects downtown Steubenville with W.Va. 2 just north of Follansbee.

That location joins Bellaire, Martins Ferry and Mingo Junction as a filming site for director Tony Scott's action thriller, which also stars Chris Pine and Rosario Dawson. The plot: a runaway train carrying toxic chemicals must be stopped before it derails and causes a devastating spill.

Film crews were busy Tuesday shooting various driving scenes on the century-old bridge, which was closed to traffic for about 12 hours. Filming was originally set to occur Monday, but last-minute delays forced everything back a day. On the Steubenville side, a portion of Third Street was closed to accommodate the filming.

Onlookers gathered in spurts on the sidewalk near the Jefferson County Courthouse, about a block away from the bridge. Some appeared to be curious workers sneaking a peek on their coffee break, while others came armed with cameras - perhaps hoping to catch a glimpse of the two-time Academy Award winner Washington, though there was no indication he was present during Tuesday's shoot.

Steubenville resident Ting Lawson said he's been a Denzel Washington fan for quite some time, and while he's never met the actor, Lawson said he'd like to someday.

"I followed him all throughout his whole career," said Lawson. "I've seen every movie he's ever made."

Lawson said he's particularly impressed by Washington's versatility, noting he's just as talented whether he's playing the hero or the villain. Lawson said he was there at about 6:45 a.m. when a helicopter used during filming landed in the area, sending the hats of many close by flying.

"That wasn't in the script," Lawson joked. "They weren't planning on that."

While "Unstoppable" has many area residents excited about the attention, not all of the valley's recent Tinseltown connections have been positive. On Monday, a Belmont County jury convicted suspended Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter of receiving stolen property, tampering with evidence and theft in office for his role in a celebrity scandal involving the surrogate mother who bore twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.

Carpenter was accused of taking items from the home of Martins Ferry resident Michelle Ross, who gave birth to the celebrity couple's children in June, and offering to sell those items to tabloid news magazines.

Bridgeport Police Chief Chad Dojack also is accused in the conspiracy.

He is set to stand trial beginning Jan. 12. Charges against a third man, Bruce Callarik - Dojack's father-in-law and son of Bridgeport Mayor John Callarik - were dropped when prosecutors decided they would be better served calling Bruce Callairk as a witness against the police chiefs.

Yes! I was wondering about that a long time ago; what is the significance of that bracelet...

NICE CAPS Jeri!!!! I love the one where he is looking at Spock after being told he's being made first officer. I LOVE that pic!

Slightly off topic.....wasn't it genius the way JJ filmed the halo jump scene? Standing on the mirror like sheet? Pure movie magic!

Love those pictures and I, too, loved how J. J. came up with the filming of the space diving scene after determining that having the actors hang upside down wasn't working. One of the many bits of information in the special features I really enjoy.

Here are two more pictures of Chris in the red t-shirt. Doesn't seem like he wears red that much but he sure looks good in it, although he probably can wear just about any color and look good. Unfortunately the pictures are small. They guy with Chris is the lead singer for The Ivy Walls, a popular Silver Lake band. He's one of Chris's closest friends. If you want to hear them, there are some videos of them on Youtube. I really like their music.

Nice pictures; I remembering hearing that his best friend was in Ivy Walls. He does look good in red; and he has nice pants in the first screen cap above.
