Chris Pine appreciation thread

I haven't seen all the extra tracks yet, so I've only heard about the mirror shoots. But I was looking for any sign of it while I was doing the above screen caps, and there's no sign of it. It just looks like it's supposed to.

Oh, good; thanks. He's been filming "Unstoppable" all over Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia; somebody probably gave him the cap.

I found a picture of the mirror which is in a special feature titled "Vision." What a great idea J. J. came up with. Watching that scene you would totally not believe Kirk and Sulu and Olson were not actually upside down. Just awesome.

Oh, thank you! I'm looking forward to that track.

I think we need to go over to this thread and talk to this fellow, because he was the Ferengi in the GQ shoot with Chris! I have asked him a couple questions, and you all might want to, too!

Happy Thanksgiving! We're going out for dinner, so I don't have to do a thing except get in the car and go. Thus, I might be lounging around here like usual.

In the mailbag: oh, brother! Mark Malkin at E!Online:

----------------
"BEAM HER UP: Star Trek stud Chris Pine, introducing new girlfriend, G4 host Olivia Munn, to the cast and crew of Unstoppable, an upcoming flick he's filming in West Virginia."

That's the sum total of his comment.

Unfortunately, Mark Malkin's bio lends him some credibility, but I wonder if he's just repeating gossip, too.

Also, there's a cute comment on this a breadwinner wife blog:

"My family is watching "Star Trek" right now and it is super weird. I am not a big Star Trek person. Chris Pine is super fine though. Don't tell my husband I said that!"

Yet another convert to our hero, Captain Fine.

Jeri, thanks so much for posting about the Ferengi thread! What a lucky guy. I took a quick peek at his blog last night. I hope to get some time today to really read it. His collection of costumes is very impressive!

That fellow's costumes are beautiful! There's a guy who is really into it -- and it paid off!

Well, I had a lot of time to kill this morning before we go out for Thanksgiving dinner; so I made screen caps of the drill-platform fight. Wow, this one was all Action Kirk! It was a real challenge to find him in focus.

My younger brother is reading over my shoulder. He hasn't seen Star Trek yet, and he just commented on how nuSulu looks like Ensign Harry Kim. :guffaw: He's into star trek, he thinks TNG is not bad, he really likes Voyager, and he hasn't really seen any of the others.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'll probably be on here today anyways, I helped put the turkey in this morning, and most of the rest of the food was made the other day to alleviate some of the work from today. It's gonna be so good! :-)

Hmm... just to keep my post from being TOO off topic... I appreciate Chris Pine. :rommie:

Happy Thanksgiving, Tom Riley and Tom's brother! :) I like Voyager, too; and I like Harry. If your brother hasn't seen the movie yet, from this scene, he must be thinking Kirk gets his butt kicked a lot. And he'd be right!

Thanks, Jeri. Those pictures are awesome. How handsome he is. After we get back from eating dinner this afternoon I am going to watch the movie. I really need a fix after seeing those gorgeous pictures from one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Popping in to say oh dear gawd on that last pic pam. um...nice package...

great caps Jeri...i never knew the Rommies had toed boots. I think they're kinda dumb looking...like...goats feet or something.

did i mention nice package picture pam....

Randi. Made my day.

And another holy mackerel picture we haven't seen in a while. I love his hair like this - a little longer than he wears it now.

So... My brother likes the movie. :D That's two siblings who've seen it and liked in just as many days.

Yeah, nice um package picture.

I liked that shoot, too; some people didn't, though. There were complaints he and Zach looked too perfect. (Like that's possible!) Zach did look surreal. I don't know if they are airbrushed or if the effect is makeup. I loved both Chris and Zach in it! It's a sleek, modern-era, futuristic look that dovetails nicely with a reboot of a 1960's sci-fi show.

Looking at the mirror shoot photo, I was trying to decide which ones might be mirror shots. This screen cap seemed like a good candidate:

Good morning! :D

This fellow from the Kansas City Star reviews the DVD's extras; he likes 'em.

DVD release of 'Star Trek' has the right mix
By ROBERT W. BUTLER
The Kansas City Star

Like the feature film itself, the DVD release of last summer’s “Star Trek” movie is carefully calculated to bridge the gulf between mildly curious newbie and die-hard Trekker...(cont.)

If you've haven't been into the DVD threads, this sums it up:
Star Trek" Top of Video Charts

The DVD release of "Star Trek", starring Chris Pine as a young Captain Kirk, has sold 5.7 million copies in its first week of release and shot straight to the top of the video charts. Blu-ray Disc sales are estimated to be just over 1 million copies.

The figures are from the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart, as well as the Home Media Magazine's rental chart...

Slow news day, so Trek movie.com posted some mashups, starting with Chris's "James 'Tiberious' Kirk":

Mashup Weekend: Star Trek A Team

News is slow over Thanksgiving Day weekend, and lets face it, people are spending their time eating and relaxing. So here at TrekMovie we will be helping you pass the time by presenting some of our favorite new viral video mashups. Today we have the new Star Trek crew mashed together with The A Team...(cont.)

Chris Hemsworth stars in the upcoming "Thor," and I admit it would be cool to have Chris in it in return, as one poster thinks:

Will Hawkeye Have A Cameo In Thor?

"I would rather see Chris Pine or Jensen Ackles play Hawkeye personally...

Fused film.com does a Thanksgiving list. We come in second to "Up," but that's still high on the list -- and on the list period, which is also something to be thankful for.

Top 10 Movies We Are Thankful for In 2009

#2 – STAR TREK
What seems like an easy number 2 pick, this reboot, revision by director JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof, was something that marveled in terms of entertainment mixed with classic Trek. Chris Pine’s portrayal of the classic Kirk was great but the idea of giving the classic crewmates something more to do throughout the film was wonderful. Zachary Quinto benefited from Leonard Nimoy’s tutelage for Spock and the dramatic score by Michael Giacchino packages the film as an entertaining space opera that has revamped the timeless franchise for another 40 years.

Did you know there's a Screenwriting Basics website? One of the bloggers poses the GQ issue as an exercise:

If your villain was included in a Men of the Year issue, which category would they be included under? Are they funny, or a song and dance man or a great leader?

So the blogger must be thinking Chris is a great leader. ;)

A Thanksgiving tribute at ontd, includes a line I wish I had remembered. It's so apt:

"I am grateful for this -- and for you." by Oresama.
