Wow--some old names in this thread!
I'm a pre-2000 member but I was posting before you had to register then registered this name when Christian finally decided you had to. I think I maybe had to re-register to when the board crashed? Or maybe I'm making that up.

I have fond memories of da Woim's Voyager reviews, defending DS9, and the daily Babylon 5 threads when they showed it on the Sci-Fi channel. I was 14 or 15 when I joined (gulp) and spent a lot of lurking time on here through high school and college. I'd then post in between campaign jobs for a bit but fell off eventually. Now I check in after I binge Trek YouTube clips or watch one of the new shows on Paramount+ just to see what it's like here. I mostly keep my posting to nostalgic threads like this though.

Edit: Also, does anyone know where Core is?

I feel like this is either a bizarre piece of performance art, or else I'm having one of those odd AI conversations where the responses don't *quite* match.

Nah, just Twain. No harm, no foul.

I joined when the board was part of UGO. I can't recall if that was pre 2000 or shortly after. It would have been around that time though as my family got our first post 1988 computer and the internet in 1998 I believe (because it came with Furbies, a major selling point).

I've had a few accounts since then. I'd post regularly, take a break for a few years, lurk, my old account would be deleted due to age or whatever, create a new one when I wanted to post again, rinse repeat.

There is no in- joke. it's just the way he posts. It's his way of saying "hello, a few good people and the rest of you low-lifes can fuck right off" before he vanishes again.
Man, it really does take all sorts :D

IDIC, eh?

Eh. When you get to be ancient* like me, that kind of stuff is a big nothing.

Or maybe after running this place for so long, it takes a helluva lot to make it over my radar anymore. I just don't give a damn about stuff online like I used to. And God knows I can be a cranky curmudgeon myself more often than not, so sarcasm and such is second nature to me.

*On growing older. Yeah, gray (or vanishing) hair and gravity winning and metabolism losing, but did you know that the gel in your eyeballs SHRINKS when you age? I didn't. And if it does this enough, you can (as I just had) have a detached retina requiring surgery. Fun! Just one more fact for the "Golden Years My Ass" file.

Well thanks Bon, that's cheered up my outlook

Bollocks is a fantastic word. It just usually has a context!

"Discovery is a load of old bollocks."
"Patrick Stewart really is the dog's bollocks."
"Where the bollocks has Christian gone?"
"Oh, look at him, all Barry Big Bollocks."

I comprehend the meaning of the word. ;)

Sorry, I am grumpy about the eyes. I can't see clearly beyond the length of my arm. 'tis frustrating. So year, bollocks to aging.

It is, as Terry Pratchett once opined a bit of 'an embuggerance'.

What can they do about the gel? Is it something you can slow down/reverse or is it just par for the course, and you've to hope it doesn't cause too many issues?
