Welcome back, Loki. Sax and violins are a somewhat unusual combi. What sort of music do you play?

Importing a backup is propably simpler. I've done that a few times. The only prob you might encounter is that the old database backup won't work properly with a new board. You need to install the same phpBB version the backup was taken from and then upgrade to the current version (3.0.14 or 3.1.x). Mind that 3.0 is not easily convertible into 3.1, so that you will have to backup the upgraded database again for the switch to 3.1. Please feel free to contact me any time if I can be of assistance. I also have rather a lot of old phpBB versions (alas, not all of them) on my backups so that I might very likely be able to help you out with the original software.

btw and slightly off-Topic: does anyone recall which poster it was who used to sign every post with "cheers!" ? I remember it was a male and a member of TrekBBS, EFCL and TK but for the life of me I can't recall the name.

Wasn't it RobertLoggia?

My profile says I joined in 2002, but there was a server migration that happened before then. I'm pretty sure I joined after the series finale of Voyager (2001).

ETA: Oops, didn't realize this was a zombie thread.

Is it a zombie thread?

It's a rollickingly good read and very much still relevant!

It’s not really a statement about quality; @Gryffindorian was just referring to the rule about not posting in a thread if it has sat dormant for a year or more, as this one had. (Sorry for explaining this if you already knew it; I really have no idea what the rules were like here before your 20-year hiatus.)

Since we do have a bit of discretion around that issue, my personal thought is that I’m fine with leaving this open to give a common home to the “Hey, remember when...” posts. (Well, I guess technically there are two threads, but “Three Years of Starscream” is kinda an institution at this point!) If there were threads that were allowed to stay open long-term, it would make sense that the board nostalgia thread would be one of them. ;)

Although please note, I’m not the only mod on Team Misc, and I can’t speak for everyone.

Suffice it to say that the moderation standards here seem to have only improved in 20 years.

Bravo, sir.

Oh my god you and I are going to be the very best of friends Mogh
The best of friends, again.

I was a member of this board when Star Trek was full of people that were actually more evolved than us, and when you did need a mushroom drive and a zillion bangs, special effects and unfulfilled plot threads to hold everyone's attention.

(I'm *this* far from rocking on my porch waving my fist at those damned kids)

It might be intersting to see a list of active membres vs join date to see who has stuck around the longest.

I am only months away from my 20th anniversary myself.

I registered in Dec 2001 under a different name.

It was however a silly one-joke type of name that got old really fast.

So in Feb 2002 I quietly stopped using that account and registered this one.

I didn't tell anybody about it for years though (early 2002 was the height of paranoia on this website and the merest hint of a second account got you kicked to kingdom come fast then Janeway racing towards a nebular full of coffee!

My profile says June 2001, but I was definitely here before that. Probably very late 1999 or early 2000.

I originally registered the name Captain Napalm, then switched to the more obvious Calvin & Hobbes reference.
