@ Anna: I knew Nibbles for years. We started out together around 2001 on an Andromeda-related board (KHCMB). She had the very rare gift of being able to make everyone smile. Everyone was shocked, speechless and totally devastated when she died.
She's the main reason why I wouldn't let TerranBBS die. The board inherited tons of good vibes from her. And there's still a Kellyz Korner there.

It's too bad we couldn't have saved Kellyz. All those great conversations, and the stories and poetry that people posted. I wonder if the database still exists somewhere.

I assume you've tried the Wayback Machine?

But even with what you all saved, there's definite history there. With TBBS being as big as it was, most threads were purged if they had ninety days of no activity. The only other spin off board I spent a lotta time at is Wordforge, but someone goofed during a serve switch and we lost all our posts prior to 2007. Every other board I spent time at has long since collapsed, such as Godawful Fanfiction (it's last incarnation having just folded last month when the owner had been missing for months) and the Archer/T'Pol fanboard.

If you guys ever decide you don't wanna pay for Terran BBS, I'd be more than happy to transfer at least the Kellyz Korner stuff to WF. We did that for @Coloratura 's Starscape board and I'm confident the other owners wouldn't mind the extra foot traffic for someone looking for the place. :techman:

Yeah, I definitely recommend this. Wordforge isn't going anywhere, and even though Starscape integrated into the board, we still have our faithful members who like to post there. Wordforge could become the one stop for older boards who need a place to go.

There's stuff on Wayback, but I'm talking about the actual database. The board died when there was a server upgrade that the current version of the software couldn't handle, but the database would have still existed. It's no doubt been purged by now, but it may still exist on a backup somewhere. I think Kellyz was hosted on the same server as another board, but I don't know that much about it. Shatna may know.

If anyone has backups, please feel free to mail them to me. I'd be happy to install them in a sort of archieve.
Anna, thanks for the kind offer. I'm hosting a copy of Terran on my own domain now and am paying an extremely moderate rate (i.e. the price of 15 Mars bars per year :D) for literally unlimited server space. As I already host 3 small boards it's no additional financial stress and only little administrational effort.

I'll have a look at my backups from the 2000s in the weekend. I think I might have a few threads from KHCMB and SlipstreamBBS in which Kelly posted. When C&L deleted Slipstream, we regulars spent 2 nights backing up whatever we could. Part of it was later used to build Slipstream Underground (of which I still have a database backup somewhere as I hosted it, too, for a few years).
LOL as you can see I'm a big believer in the importance of keeping a copy of everything, just in case.

I've been on the board since I was on dial-up. And since that ended in 1999 (got on Roadrunner late that year), then I've been on here since before 2000. This (or U.S.S. Triumphant) has been my user name the whole time, but this is my third account - I took a couple of breaks from the board, and when I came back each time, my account was gone, so I remade it. (To be fair, the breaks were a couple of years, each, so I wasn't totally surprised - I just figured it meant TrekBBS did a better job of cleaning up inactive accounts than Hotmail or AOL. I've since found out that *wasn't* why the accounts were gone - seems like board technical issues, instead - but, you know, whatever: I'm still gonna say TrekBBS is better than AOL, because what isn't? ;) )

My profile says I joined July 2000, which is sort of true.

I also come back once a year to post in Starcream's anniversary thread. ;)

rEFCL is totally broken at the moment, I'm not sure if I can raise it again, or maybe just try to import a really old backup into a new phpBB3 board. But my coding skills have atrophied and my priorities have shifted over the years...cue the sax and violins.

Welcome back, Loki. Sax and violins are a somewhat unusual combi. What sort of music do you play?

Importing a backup is propably simpler. I've done that a few times. The only prob you might encounter is that the old database backup won't work properly with a new board. You need to install the same phpBB version the backup was taken from and then upgrade to the current version (3.0.14 or 3.1.x). Mind that 3.0 is not easily convertible into 3.1, so that you will have to backup the upgraded database again for the switch to 3.1. Please feel free to contact me any time if I can be of assistance. I also have rather a lot of old phpBB versions (alas, not all of them) on my backups so that I might very likely be able to help you out with the original software.

btw and slightly off-Topic: does anyone recall which poster it was who used to sign every post with "cheers!" ? I remember it was a male and a member of TrekBBS, EFCL and TK but for the life of me I can't recall the name.

It rings a bell, but I'm not sure of the name. I thought immediately of @23skiddo but I don't think he was ever a part of TK.

Wasn't it "Cal" who use to post that. Might be someone else.

With regards to spin-off boards (besides posting on lonaf once in a while) - been at least 5 years since I posted on any of them.
