Charlie's Angels: Season Discussion Thread

The new "Charlie's Angels" series begins tonight, I've got it set to DVR and will likely check it out sooner or later in the next couple of days.

Are others planning on checking this out? If so, let's discuss the Pilot and the rest of the season here!

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

In a world of cable TV and internet porn I seriously doubt this show is going to have enough of what made people watch the original to keep it on the air.

The movie only worked because it was a semi-comedic take with some fun big budget action scenes.

My prediction is that it doesn't last a full season.

That would be my prediction too, but sort of how I feel for every new TV series any more.

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

My interest was mildly caught when I learned Minka Kelley's one of the Angels.

Not enough to actually watch I think, but if people say it's good I'll check it out. Never have watched any Charlie's Angels in any incarnation though.

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

Well Demi Moore wasn't the best villian in the last one, and truth be told Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore - especially Drew Barrymore - are getting a bit long in the tooth.

Still though, Crispin Glover is always a welcome addition.

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

You think Charlie favors obtuse or acute angles?

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

Well, Farrah was a cute angle. Er, angel. ;)

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

Charlie's Angles?

"The sum of the angles of that rectangle is too monstrous to contemplate!"

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

So did anyone actually watch this?

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

Well, other than her jaw-line.
What was wrong with her jawline?

Farrah was a unique beauty who started out in fluffy eye-candy roles, but later proved to be a talented actress. She left us much too early.

The Charlie’s Angels concept — a team of three gorgeous women fighting crime — has been copied, cloned and parodied to death. There was V.I.P. with Pamela Anderson and She Spies with Natasha Henstridge. Oh, and does anybody remember The American Girls? (Okay, that one had only two gorgeous women fighting crime.) And then the Angels movies, which were played pretty much as camp.

So a new version of the show that started it all is going to seem like a spoof of a spoof of a spoof of a spoof of a spoof of a spoof of a spoof . . . Well, you get the idea.

Taped it, but haven't watched it yet. I don't really have high hopes.

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

I really doubt this thing will last a season... :rommie:

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

The show looked really good but was so cheesy; stereotypes and contrived situations. I wasn't really expecting anything else though.

Re: Charlie's Angles: Season Discussion Thread

Not really interested (though I watched the original with gusto).
But it was cool that TVGuide sort of recreated a 1976 Angels cover this week.

I tuned in because I didn't have anything better to do, and I thought it was an okay time-waster, though I don't think must-see TV. Best part was 'Jack Bristow' as Charlie. :D

Robert Wagner was supposed to be the voice of Charlie, but that didn't sound like him at all. Very boring and deadpan and generic. That was only the first disappointment, though, because this thing was bloody awful.

The dialogue was stilted and awkward and painful, and not improved by the clumsy post-production voiceovers. The direction was as inept and amateurish as an Asylum movie. The soundtrack was like being poked in the eye with a sharp stick, but I suppose they were obligated to use contemporary music-- not every show can sound as great as Supernatural, unfortunately.

Turning Bosley into a sexy young stud totally undermined the purpose of the character; however, the actor that played him was the best part of the show. The actresses who played the Angels were underwhelming, to say the least.

I don't like that it was a re-imagining-- I prefer continuations-- but the concept of replacing the (somewhat) outdated concept of allowing women to live up to their potential with the concept of redeeming damaged people is essentially a good one, but wasted on this slapdash pilot.

Interesting Coincidence Dept: In 1977, I wrote a story called "The Privateers," which was partially inspired by Charlie's Angels and included variations on the surprising main cast death gimmick and the airplane gimmick.

Anyway, I don't think this is worth a second look.

So, pretty much just like the original, eh? :)

Aw... crap!

Sorry... I couldn't resist!! :)

So... can anyone tell me if this was worse or better than The Playboy Club? I'm all for mindless pulp entertainment... but sometimes watching stuff that makes me feel stupider than before viewing it or takes a great opportunity and ruins it by pandering it to all age groups - it's irritating.
