Chaos on the Bridge - Shatner's HBO doc about TNG

She also backed Worf's inclusion to the show and eventually wrote the story treatment for "Heart of Glory", the first episode to really treat Worf as a three dimensional character that set the stage for later episodes that would explore his conflicting feelings about what it means to be a Starfleet officer and a Klingon warrior (which, Ron Moore, "tool", really went to town with).

Sorry to bump an old thread, but has anyone in the US been able to catch this? Anyone with US HBO subscriptions able to stream it or anything?! I want! :p

I find fan opinion of Moore to be overrated. I thought the introductory miniseries to his nuBSG to be so boring, I had trouble staying awake. I managed to get through Season 1 of it, and the first half of Season 2, but not sure I want to stay with it.

I never got the love.

I enjoyed the original version much more. It may be hokey at times, but at least it had likable characters.

100% agree, not only was the reimagined Battle Star Galactica boring (especially from a visual perspective, but also the pacing, the characters etc) but it took itself WAY too seriously and so ended up, at times, looking like a teenager trying to write "dark" and "mature" stories for his fanfiction.

At times the mini series (I never watched beyond it) even caused me to burst out in laughter (and annoy my boyfriend who actually is a fan of the series) because it was so over the top wit his "darkness" in such scenes as Not!Cassiopeia strangling the baby in that market square (rofl?), the adorable little girl playing with her doll while weapons approach her ship and Roslin's sudden reveal of "I have cancer" (also my dog died, my husband left me and a bird shat on my new jacket)
Seriously...

Now I don't find the first two seasons of TNG stellar, but there are some good episodes (Measure of a Man, for one, Pen Pals, Loud as a Whisper, Where Silence Has Lease) that in my eyes are much more watchable than Moore's Galactica dreck. Heck I'd even rather Angel One than the re-imagined BSG

And also agreed that the characters in the original series were at least somewhat likable, unlike the re-imagined ones.

original!BSG was always better to me than nu!BSG. I can't really explain why, it's just a feeling I've got. For some reason, the modern version just didn't "take" with me  I think a lot of what Orphalesion says above hits a chord with me, though.

I've read Shatner is unable to find US distribution rights.
Which leaves me kind of incredulous, but I guess he has many projects on the go.

Damn it! I wanted to see it!

Anyway, I stuck with nuBSG and found it rewarding as hell! I loved it!

But I guess if you're still not "feeling it" after 1 1/2 seasons, it might be time to pull the plug, but I was glad I stuck with it.

I thought it was great.

My picture of nuBSG in a nutshell:

Does it ever grow out of it as the saesons progress?

No squirrels or Squirrel Girl either. nuBSG would have been 200% more awesome if they had added more squirrels and Squirrel Girl.

I admit that I found the background they gave the colonies fairly interesting (like explaining that one planet was the cultural centre, another one was rural and religious etc), and Roslin seems like an interesting character. It's just everything else about the show that ticks me off, especially the painfully contemporary style.

I don't think we're watching the same show. I grew up loving the original BSG and also loved the New BSG. There is room for both. My wife and I watched New BSG twice through, once just the two of us and again with my life long friend Dan. He had spent the last ten years living in China, and really brought a lot of interesting angles to the table regarding what was going on in New BSG. I thought I was paying attention the first time around, but watching with him and hearing the views of someone who had been removed from our culture for a decade really opened my eyes. It's a fine piece of television.

No we have been watching the same show we just have something called "different opinions" it's known to happen.
It's a "fine piece of television" in your opinion and that's good you get to enjoy something I don't, in my opinion however its a reeking bag of garbage and that's fine too, there's enough other shows for me to enjoy.
I also fail to comprehend how your anecdote of your friend Dan is supposed to change my opinion in that matter or give me more insight into the "interesting angles" of nuBSG especially since you don't elaborate on them.

If you care to explain those "interesting angles" I promise to give them a fair chance and consideration.

Why should it? You obviously have already made up your mind about the show, so there would be little sense in trying to persuade you of its merits.

Also, what's with the snarky tone? Your posts read like attempts to defend your opinion, when I don't see anyone who is attacking it. You don't like the new(er) Battlestar Galactica and that's fine, really. Lots of people don't. Personally, I love it and think it's one of the greatest pieces of television. But I would never even think about changing other's opinion about it.

And another thing: The phrase “I don't think we're watching the same show” very obviously implies “We have a different opinion about the show”. It's called a figure of speech. I mean, did you actually think NewHorizon was saying you have been watching a different version of the show? :wtf:

Does anyone else find that odd. It premièred here on HBO Canada last year. Why the heck wouldn't HBO in the US pick it up and air it as well? I really don't get how that works. You'd think it would be a no-brainer.

NuBSG was a decent show that entertained its followers. My biggest complaint/praise for/about it is that if you changed all the names to something having nothing to do with originalBSG, it would still be a good show. I think perhaps they should have done that, because then they would have gotten better reviews from the originalBSG fans.

Is there any plans for a DVD release, like "The Captains"??

^ Hopefully. BTW, for anyone considering a purchase, I found "Captains Close Up" to be better than "Captains".

No, to me this particular phrase implied that NewHorizon meant to say that nuBSG is so "perfect" that it is impossible for anybody not to like it. I know it was not meant literally. just found the choice of words mildly arrogant, hence my snarky tone.

And the rest of his post seemed to imply that I don't "get" something about the show and that is why I don't like it, so I was mildly curious what those "unique perspectives" were.
No opnionion is ever finite, naturally the chances of me changing my mind are very slim, still if he explained himself I might get more understanding. There are other things I have hated in the past and I have changed my mind about, and other things I used to love and now find boring or annoying.

Thanks for that. I saw "The Captains" but somehow "The Captains Close Up" got by me. It's on Amazon for under 10 buck with shipping included so I am going to pick it up. Can you tell me, is it just a continuation of the talks Shatner had with the stars for "The Captains" (out-takes) or are they whole new interviews?
