Chakotay and Seven

Why do people not like these two being together?

I mean sure, I can see some issues.

Seven: Snoring is Irrelevant.
Chakotay: So is nagging...

But come on, all relationships have issues. Seven is attractive, and I would guess there are some women out there who think Chakotay is as well. So whats wrong?

Chak's an earthy guy who's seen and felt much, and is clearly attracted to strong, confident women. He should have had no interest in the emotionally stunted woman-child that Seven remained by the end of the series - and indeed, right up to the end, he didn't.

Seven should have ended up canoodling with either Redge or LaForge at the Rikers' wedding.

There's also the small problem of Chakotay spending three years wanting to shove Seven out an airlock.

People change, but we weren't really shown that change. They were never seen growing fond of one another.

And, anyway, Gaith's right - Seven just wasn't emotionally ready for a man of Chakotay's age and experience. It felt off-balance. Putting my preference for a J/C relationship aside, the age issue was also just too much for me to handle.

Chakotay was BORING. If I were Seven and had to listen to all those "Angry Warrior" stories and "there is a legend among my people" and "A-koo-chi-moy-a..." stuff, I'd have assimilated him just to shut him up (and I can't understand why JANEWAY didn't tell him to shut up).

I'm not saying that in an interesting character, the spiritual stuff wouldn't have been a fascinating part of that individual. But since Chakotay was about as interesting as cardboard, his spiritual stuff was an annoyance.

If Seven were to end up with anybody on Voyager, it would either have been the Doctor or Tuvok. Or maybe Paris. I've seen fanfics dealing with all three possibilities.

Gaith and froot cite the major problems with it. It is not that it "had issues", it's that it totally shattered willing suspension of disbelief. The two had absolutely zero chemistry and is about the only Trek romance I think is more forced than Julian/Ezri. There is literally no one else in the main cast who would be a worse match. Hell, you could go all bad fanfic/soap opera and pair with Torres and I STILL think that would make more sense.

I cannot describe Seven and Chakotay's retarded, awkward, poorly concieved, intelligence-insulting, not-believable-in-the-slightest, character-destroying, credibility-ruining relationship without using deeply unpleasent terms involving coat hangers and back alleys, so I'll just say that it was the single worst story in the history of Star Trek.

What were they thinking?

I read a post-Endgame article where the writers, when asked about C/7, related they said to themselves of that idea, "Why not?" Obviously they weren't thinking. Or didn't care. Or maybe just wanted to be perverse. (Figures.)

Seven is an emotional adolescent and Chakotay is 20 years older than her. It was creepy.

I suppose they wanted a relationship and they thought no one was available. Janeway is married to her Duty as a Captain, Paris and Torres have each other, Kim is still dedicated to his fiance back home, and Tuvok is married. That leaves Neelix, Chakotay, and the Doctor -- and maybe they thought Beltran and Seven were the most photogenic pair. Not a well-thought out choice..it added nothing and broke the willing suspension of disbelief, as RyuRoots commented earlier.

Kim is still dedicated to his fiance back home.

The Disease, anyone?

But I agree otherwise. That The Doctor was still free and had previously expressed attachment to Seven and that they go with...Chakotay, of all friggin' people just boggles the mind.

It just wasn't right. For numerous reasons . . . .

1: Chakotay wanted to shove Seven out of an airlock when she first arrived. He did try to decompress her now that I think of it. And after that there was no other relationship development between the two. So the viewers have to assume that he only tolerates her for Janeway's sake.

2: Chakotay and Janeway. Janeway and Chakotay. Now how does that sound. Now let's try it again. Chakotay and Seven. Seven and Chakotay. That doesn't have the same ring to it. We always associate Chakotay with Janeway because well . . . The on-screen chemistry between Beltran and Kate is astronomical. The lingering glances. The touches. Come on, how are we not supposed to put those together? Whereas the chemistry between Jeri Ryan and Beltran well . . . Kind of was nonexistent. I mean, yeah I'm a J/C shipper, but I still gag if I watch those parts of Endgame, it just isn't right.

3: I can't say the physical age as a difference because my husband is eighteen years older than me, however the emotional age difference is large. Seven is emotionally a pre-teen who is just learning about her emotions and Chakotay is a grown man who has loved and lost. So it seemed like he was using this young, hot, and pretty thing for a bit of an ego boost.

4: There was no build up to it during the last season. Sure there was Human Error, but if Chakotay actually knew about that would he go out with her? And Natural Law, really? Seven's the only other person on the planet, what is she supposed to do? Let him die? Oh yeah, that would make perfect sense. I'd love to see Janeway and B'Elanna's reactions. It was out of place.

For heaven's sakes, Doc tells the woman he loves her to her face in the episode prior to the finale. And she didn't even turn him down or say a word. Le sigh. I know Chuckles and Seven are good looking, but that means next to nothing when it comes to chemistry. I agree that out of any one crack pairing a person can think up on VOY, C/7 is the worst match. It's like watching a weird fanfic come to life.

And, as for Harry, it's not just The Disease - dun forget Favorite Son! Or any time he's chasing after the wrong Deleney twin.

We don't even have to assume - Chakotay flat-out states he trusts her as far as he can kick her in One.

In fact, I think the best chemistry those two ever had is when they first faced off in the Ready Room in Scorpion II. That scene was seventeen million times more awesome and charged than those picnic scenes in Endgame.

I see, I`m one of the very small group of fans, who like the C/7 pairing.
Well, I most like J/C, but I also C/7.
Unfortunatelly they didn`t build up the relationsship during the series. That`s a big problem.
Some times ago I read an interview with Robert or Jery, where on of them told, that they`ve asked the producer before shooting "Natural Law" if they should act like if they were in love together, but the producer said "no".
I understand the comlaining about that pairing, but I`m also watching it with Kate Mulgrews eyes. She said: "Sexy meets sexy".

And yes, I`m also one of the woman here, who finds Robert Beltran sexy.

You mean the relationship they focussed on for almost two seasons?

Totally moonlighting us until Berman wakes up from holiday and says "What is this shit!? I'm doing the last episode and fuck this, every script for the last three years is getting a burn notice, T'Pol was supposed to end up with Archer you fucktards... I'm just going to make some shit up on the fly and hey do you remember the next generation? Yeah. Everyone loved that, more people will watch an episode of Enterprise if it is about Next Gen. Yeah, a freaking Valentine. Remind people why they put up with this bullshit."

The Jerry Springer Movie (Ringmaster!) was a fiction focussed on the production of the episode "I slept with my step daddy" ...That's all I get from Janeways almost boyfriend sleeping with her almost step daughter.

And Miral probably wouldn't have lost her virginity to Icheb any more either... Although she's not maturing as fast as an Ocampa, if we use Alexander as a benchmark, she'll look 18 by the time she is 5, and 30 by the time she is ten and then level off looking mostly the same for the next two hundred years.

Miral might have given her flower to Kim?

He flirts with statutory rape all the time. statutory rape, necrophilia, bestiality and the spreading of glowing space herpes. the man is a cad.

Where was I?

Changing Lynnis' diapers didn't stop him impregnating that Miss Paris, so why not this one?

Chakotay was a big fish in an unimaginably tiny pond.

There were not plenty more fish in the pond.
