Chakotay and Seven on Earth

Y'know, I came to this website to connect with other fans. I honestly wish I'd never mentioned being Catholic. It's the same thing, people make assumptions go on about the atrocities of the Church and how all Catholics/Christians are hypocrites.

We're all lumped together.

The only reason I mention stuff like this is because I want people to understand each other, whatever their race, color, creed, gender, orientation, etc. ST has always been a great metaphor for that ideal. In my own family we have 3 religions represented and mixed race children and we all love each other and celebrate that diversity.

I get why there are so many negative feelings towards religion nowadays. How can anyone not?

But I don't haphazardly go off on judging someone's character because they happen to be religious, or gay, or black, or whatever. We're all human beings and all worthy of kindness, compassion, and dignity. That's what my dad taught me and that's what I'm teaching my kids.

I guess it serves me right. I should have known better and I didn't. I honestly don't need this. I'm depressed enough and I miss my dad. I really do.

So, Live Long and Prosper everyone. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.

And thanks for the support, Oddish. I appreciate it.

I'm gone.

I want to add that every aspect of what was done to various indigenous people by Americans (and Canadians) sickens and saddens me. Not just the exceptional atrocities like at that school, but at the deliberate and calculated attempt to annihilate their culture, from the short hair to the European clothes and names. I cannot imagine Jesus, or any good follower of His, approving of such appalling behavior. However, I don't blame Him for the behavior of religious leaders who violate His teachings: Jesus's ministry was focused on opposing people like that, and they ultimately murdered Him for it. The Roman cross was just their murder weapon of choice.

Regarding Chakotay and Seven... it would be interesting to know how long it lasted, who broke it off, and what happened to Chakotay afterward. Did he stay in Starfleet? Remain on Earth? Or did he, like Seven, take a different path?

That's why I suggested a fanfic site. There are some very good fan writers who have crafted good, interesting stories that explore all kinds of facets of these characters. Some of these take place on Chakotay's home planet, where he and his people are trying to reclaim their planet and salvage what they can after the Cardassians are gone. Some of these stories include either Janeway or Seven (depending on which couple the writer prefers) going there to help. They may or may not end up married, but that's the thing with fanfic. It can go anywhere.

I'll give it a look. Though I can't say I like the pairing, sometimes a good story can come from unexpected sources.

That is certainly true, as I know from experience. Some of my best fanfics did just that, and wound up in crazy places.

Over on fanfiction.net, there are some pretty good C/7 stories by scifiromance, and a few really well-done ones by Teya -- I highly recommend her "Aurora" and "One Is For Sorrow."

As for me, I could see the relationship going either way once Voyager gets to Earth. But I was massively unimpressed with the way Golden broke them up offscreen in the first post-series book. Holy easy way out, Batman.

I've been following scifiromance's stories for years. I take my hat off to her for finding such a variety of creative ways to get Seven and Chakotay together and make them interesting.

Oddish, you shouldn't have to say any of that. Any person with any ounce of humanity would be horrified at what happened to indigenous Americans, especially in light of this atrocity in Canada. Of course your horrified. Anyone would be who isn't a psychopath or a sociopath or a racist.

But, again, just because you're religious doesn't mean that you're guilty of the crimes of others of the same religion. Thus, there should be no need for you to draw a line around yourself between you and them.

Just as there's no excuse either for the vandalism of churches in the wake of this horrific discovery. Or assuming that someone is anti-abortion, anti-gay, etc. because of the church they attend. But that's what the problem is nowadays. Bigotry, racism, homophobia, have run rampant.

A number of relatively mainline Christian denominations were actually performing same-sex commitment ceremonies well before any state legalized gay marriage.

I'd like to think that C and 7 are either just "taking a break" from their relationship, or simply have an open relationship. (I imagine both being commonplace in the 24th Century. ) But realistically, that's probably not what the writers intend.

The C7 pairing, like the character of Icheb, was not handled too great onscreen. Fanfic writers like to salvage both with better development, but I suppose for the show's writers it was just easier to give these things the ax.

Well, if Chakotay and Seven were paired in Voyager, it was above all to occupy Robert Beltran's Chakotay but according to the general reaction afterwards and how unpopular they were together, it was clearly a bad idea. A majority of people wanted Chakotay with Janeway and others, wanted Seven with Janeway. Chakotay/Seven had no chance to impose itself. Result: the couple didn't existed anymore and we know from Star Trek: Picard that, Seven dated women and is even with one, right now.

For Icheb, I agree, the character was badly handled but they need to kill him to make Seven what she is today. An angry woman who looked for revenge for her "son" and who doesn't believe anyone, whatever it is Starfleet or people outside. It is sad, for sure, but I can understand the message behind Icheb's death.
