CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

.....in my opinion, is that he is not unlike Alec
......an obsessive, belligerent echo chamber
......"I Stand With CBS" - had a very clear intention of standing out as a response to Peters' approach of labeling people haters and banning people, by not doing so. Unfortunately, the subsequent group has morphed into the same things as Peters' groups
...... While I agree with most of what Mr, Hinman and his troops have to say about Axanar and Peters, it is the method by which they approach it that leaves a lot to be desired, and I think it costs them potential support.
I am not on Facebook, but l long ago stopped reading anything on 1701 News about the production/defendant/lawsuit authored by this person because it seemed, at least to me, to cease being reporting and became instead vendetta.
Indeed, he's lost most of his objectivity as well as lost sight of the true focus then.
Agree
In my opinion, Hinman should have stepped away from the subject a few months ago, when he found he couldn't maintain an even balance
Agree
It's a cliche, but... Those who fight dragons become dragons.
Star Trek Into Darkness:
"James T. Kirk: There will always be those who mean to do us harm. To stop them, we risk awakening the same evil within ourselves."
Yes. An innately human urge. One I deeply believe should be resisted.

That's actually a good question for the lawyers here. Can someone out of state ignore a subpoena? What if it was a financial hardship to travel?
Or a physical one?

Tag, @jespah!
Well don't know about California, but in England the Claimant (Plaintiff) would undertake to provide reasonable funds on request for travel costs should the deposed individual have difficulty traveling to court.
The only time I had to give a deposition the Lawyers traveled to where I was and it was done in my office.

A client of mine who lived in England was being sued in South Carolina. I was dealing with the UK side of things as I was doing personal injury work at the time, which this concerned. The American lawyers involved traveled to London to take my client's evidence in our office board room. I was quite surprised that such cost was justified for their clients. It would only happen in reverse on a partiuclarly high value case. Whether or not this cost was agreed is something I was not privy to.

Was just served with a deposition subpoena for Axanar... looks like they think I'm willing to travel to CA for this, too. Not unless they're paying for it and can get my employer to excuse those days I'm not.

Looks like they want everything that I may or may not have, including all communication with Alec, Rob, Christian, Alexander Bornstein, Bing, Diana, Michael Spatola, and Adam Howard... which means they're likely on the subpoena list, too.

Spicy stuff!

The first thought that popped into my head: Anyone want to start a crowd-funding to pay for his airplane ticket???

Given how he's repeatedly stated he had some juicy dirt on things, I'm not surprised he'd be deposed, but yeah, doesn't exactly surprise me he'd balk at traveling.

Yea - Star Trek fans are so 'up in arms' over CBS/Paramount's treatment of 'Axanar' that when it's up against a panel for a Star trek series that ended 'first run' 16 years ago; and a remake of a series that ended 12 years ago; the fans decide to rally behind the Axanar panel...oh, wait...:rommie::techman:

[Seriously, I think that after after 2+ YEARS of nothing past the 23 minute SFX reel that was 'Prelude to Axanar' Alec needs to realize that most of the more rational people are on to him; and don't care for a 50 minute bitching session of excuses and faux outrage over the fact SBS/Paramount won't just let someone wholesale try and steal their IP property.]

Well, there's always 'Courtcall' (It's a company that specifically specializes in doing 'remote' testimony and deposition via secure audio or video conference.)

Fairly reasonable prices too. And it's not unheard of for a lawyer to try to get a witness to come testify on their own dime first before resorting to that option as the legal firm will try to limit their own internal 'out of pocket' costs. In the end they'll of course bill C/P, but any client likes a lawyer who first tries to keep costs to the client down. It's rare the a Judge would force a witness not directly named to bare the cost of plane/hotel themselves (it's not impossible - but in a case like this a Judge would likely say, "You guys want to depose him you make arrangements on your dime.")

Would anyone like to make a guess for how much longer this case will drag on before it reaches some closure? How many others are suffering from Axa-fatigue?

And now, this …

No Carlos. Your obvious decision to still back Hinman is a mistake.

You can't claim free critiques when Hinman has gone out of his way to rubbish another Trek fan so unreasonably, and then decided (with your presumed agreement) that any critics of that decision are no longer to be heard, and shuts threads or other threatens bans. If you can't see how much like Peters he has become then I pity you.

I'm sorry, but whatever health issues Hinman may have, he has lost his objectivity. Please see this. Axamoniter is a great resourse. Associating it with Hinman has become a mistake.

I watched the Trekzone interview with Jonathan Lane yesterday, and while I overall thought it was pretty reasonable, it really irked me that the narrative as again "the fans are up in arms". It's total bollocks. Only a small percentage of fans give a shit about fan films, an even then then pro-Axanar folks are only a percentage of those people. We're talking a couple of thousand out of how many million? The whole "fans are upset" narrative is a disgrace.

I'm Axanar'd out.

I watched it too.

Put simply, Jonathan Lane is an Axanar shill. He'll deny it, but his propaganda blog proves otherwise. He's disingenuous.

I have made no decision about "backing" Michael's behavior. I have strenuously objected to him about it and am preparing to take action about it. I have been relatively quiet about it because I've been preferring to focus on actually covering the Axanar story, but silence does not equal assent, so no presumption is necessary.
