CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I just don't think that CBS had any other option than to sue. There's no way "we made a mistake" or "we didn't know the law" are going to work in this scenario.

Holy Crap, Alec is going to do a new kickstarter! They're making it clear Ares Studios is a serpate for profit business seperate from the Axanar film.

Funded, I suspected, by a crap-ton of naive fans that believe Axanar still has a chance in hell getting made

Once I saw the Axanar coffee page, I figure the entire project is about as likely to happen as another TNG movie.

CBS is probably in "HULK SMASH!!!" mode now.

This also makes me feel hopeful. The more CBS points out that Axanar was actively making money for other goals aside from a simple fan film, the better I feel about the other productions well-being. I know it's too soon to really know for sure, but it helps.

Dude, you used a copyrighted Disney character your post...the mouse would like your heart in exchange for settling the case of your blatant infringement of their IP.

I think CBS will likely take a very close look at people using crowd sourcing to make fan films. They have to keep a very close eye on each one to make sure they aren't breaking any rules and it would probably be easier to eliminate that frustration.

Oh dear lord, I forgot about the coffee thing... :wtf:

Hey, I'm wanting to move into a RV fulltime. Theres some sweet look 2016s on the lot. Maybe I can get the kool-aide drinkers...uh I mean fans...yeah, fans...of Axanar to crowdfund it. Call it Axanar RV. Cause apparently all you need to bilge pump these idiots wallets dry is put Axanar in front of it and say you're better than CBS and JJ is the suxor!!!

Axanar : The Book ! - OR - How to fleece Star Trek fans out of a few million dollars and walk all the way to the bank laughing.

Chapter 1 - You can fool some of the people some of the time

Chapter 2 - Everybody's doing it, so can we

Chapter 3 - 30 min promo so they'll keep sending money

Chapter 4 - We need to start our own studio, more money

Chapter 5 - Look out, it's CBS / Para, okay act cool

Chapter 6 - And we would of gotten away with it too

Chapter 7 - You'll never work in this town again

Chapter 8 - Cardboard sign of the times

Chapter 9 - That's all folks

I bet anyone could write this book in their sleep using the past few days as a starting point & make a mint off of it.

;-)

Oh jeeze, he was living off the proceeds and planning to build a movie making empire with non-stop cheap merchandise being pumped out too?

CBS has him by the everything right now.

I think they'll allow fan films to continue, they just won't allow anyone to use Kickstarter/Indiegogo or any other fund raising websites.

How many times can Peters go back to that well though? I'm sure that the hammer coming down is going to siphon off some of that funding from people who don't want to donate to something that's even less likely to happen.

Then you're going to have to pay the crew even more in order to entice them to work for what's essentially a black-market production.

That's even if a judge would allow this to continue, which I doubt.

Or if they do set a limit so low that it wouldn't be a threat.

Guys.

Have no fear. If all else fails, Alec Peters can take on appropriating and profiting off of Starbucks' IP selling fine coffees.

Holy fucking shit! This guy was just begging to be sued by CBS.

:guffaw:

I mean... the model starship kits, the T-shirts, the patches, the posters, the soundtrack CDs, the novelization/anthology, and the Blu-Ray and DVD sets clearly weren't enough.
Wow, I didn't realize they were merchandising the shit out of this like that. No wonder they're getting sued.
I had been wondering why Axanar was getting sued when so many other high profile fan productions, like Phase II, Star Trek Continues, and Renegades didn't, the merchandising could definitely explain that.
