Very damned well tempted to post hard hitting questions towards Alec, just to see how quickly they're removed and I'm banned from this so called fan group...

It's really more like a cult today...........

It really is. Reading some of those comments, it's astonishing the level of disconnect to reality on display there.

Fiasco

fi·as·co
fēˈaskō/Submit
noun
a thing that is a complete failure, especially in a ludicrous or humiliating way.
"his plans turned into a fiasco"
synonyms: failure, disaster, catastrophe, debacle, shambles, farce, mess, wreck; informalflop, washout, snafu
"the picnic was a fiasco"

I think we are all just trying to come to grips with this whole thing & it's been a long couple of days dealing with this thing so far, so no harm, no foul for everyone here.

We are all after all, only Human ;-)

Holy Crap, Alec is going to do a new kickstarter! They're making it clear Ares Studios is a serpate for profit business seperate from the Axanar film.

Ah. Presumably he's going to launch a Kickstarter specifically to fund the studio.

Which is entirely fair, as long as he doesn't drag Star Trek into that in any direct way.

Crowdfunding is based on trust/reputations. If he doesn't mention Axanar, what other film-industry cred can he lean on to make people take him seriously? Note that crowdfunding sites have comments sections too. What's going on will follow him wherever he goes whether he talks about it there or not.

The Rura Pethe Chronicles (the story of the Axanar fall out translated into a prison/escape fan movie)

He already used the fans money on the studio!

Pitch line: "Dear fans, I fucked up, and there will be no Axanar film. However, you can still give me money to support the studio that I created with money you have previously given me"

Sad thing is, I can see a bunch of these fans donating to this...sigh.

And people here wondered why I was getting on his case a few months ago. Sorry I'm not a true believer. The more I think about it, Alec really is Garth! He is totally immersed in the role. ;)

Wow this got very American all the sudden....
Oh well....

Of course Axanar was going to be 100 times better than the shit Paramount was going to force feed the fans on Trek's 50th, and Paramount and CBS new this, so they've put a stop to it.

Except it's visually identical to nuTrek.

Shouldn't you be somewhere wildly under-calculating box office numbers?

Kickstarter has no way to ensure you return the money...
But the court can ensure that Peters doesn't keep any money raised by using Star Trek IP, which would be all of it.

If they're forced to hand over to CBS all funds raised through Kickstarter, CBS could throw a bone to the fans and make the first month of AllAccess free so everyone can watch the new series (which I'm pretty sure they're going to do anyway).
Another thing is having Gary Graham as Soval and an overall look somewhat reminiscent of "Enterprise" almost made it seem an official continuation of that series..?

Eh, it had the same polish as the nuJabba/Mos Eisley scene in Nu Hope's re-release 20 years ago. I thought a million bucks and 5 years would get more than that.

might be a silly question but Could anyone go to jail over this?

Maybe

If Peters is sent to Jaros II, might i suggest getting a cell on the east wing?

Depends on any fraud was uncovered. Maybe someone cooked the books to make it look like CBS was getting their due and someone at CBS (who donated so they would have access to said books) saw something that was awry.

Not saying that happened, but fuck it...

I can't vouch for anything else, but I'll testify in court that Nick. J. Cook is a classy guy.

I agree, and a respected member of this community.

I've gotta say Tom, you've been pretty classy throughout this, and the new series announcement too. Props to you and your crew.

Well, look - he's generated a following, possibly of thousands of people (hundreds, certainly), who think what he's doing is great. Now they're whipped up into this David-v-Goliath, stick-it-to-the-Man mentality - what a great time to ask them to donate to keeping the studio open?

  • Maybe he comes up with 300,000-500,000 bucks to keep Ares Studio going.
  • Within the next few days or weeks he pretty much has to throw in the towel on Axanar, but -
  • Now he has the resources to start making an original science fiction movie/program on a limited budget -
  • Assuming that he can get out from under the CBS lawsuit simply by folding the Axanar tent and reaching a financial settlement.
  • Maybe he has money left over from the Axanar Kickstarters to roll into an original movie.

It's really kind of inspired, if you think about it.

But what about the money raised from the Kickstarter and the Indigogo campaign that was put into the framework of Ares Studios....

Let me put it this way...

TV Preacher, goes on TV asks for money, gets money, starts a for profit side business using that money...

I mean people would be calling for the TV preacher to face some consequences, right?

Yep.

I wonder if this could blow up big enough for Kickstarter to rethink some of their own regulations about such projects?

I can see them toss money at this as well, guess they'll never learn, or when the do learn it'll be the hard way...
