CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

You know what? I wish we weren't talking about a case involving the studios who own our beloved franchise suing a fan for being too... well, fanatical.

It's a vicious circle where they say something, journalists like Hinman, Pedraza and bloggers such as myself report it, they attack us for reporting, then we report their attack on us reporting. And around and around it goes.

6 days to go...

I truly question whether Peters is a fan, at this point.
I tend to agree. Look at Doctor Who. It has lots of fans who are way too fanatical, constantly critical of whatever's going on with the show, think they could write it better themselves,... but not often do you find anything analogous to what he's tried to do.

Edit:
I actually meant this in reference to BillJ's previous post.

When there are so many positive things going on, I just want to encourage people to get focused on the real fun stuff. Arguing over the legalities is idiotic. It's the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek! Can you name any other TV show that is going to have literally thousands of people celebrating the Golden Anniversary of the show?.

People are allowed to focus and write abut what they'd like to focus and write about. Attention goes where attention goes. In this case, there's a non-trivial amount of interest in the copyright infringement case caused by Alec Peter's actions. That's where this started, and the ending will greatly depend on his actions as well.

I think that he is a fan, but I also think that he thinks that he could do better than CBS/Paramount. Like many fan projects, his reached seemed to outstretch his grasp and it went from "fan film" to "independent studio" that could produce better than the professional studios.

Personally, just from my own observations, I think a lot of it comes back to anger at CBS/Paramount and their perceived mishandling of the franchise. No matter the reasons, Axanar tapped in to the anger and is riding that as far as it will go.

Well, (without going into details) there have been a few, ah... 'big name Doctor Who fans' whose ambitions and ego have blown up in their faces.

The difference is that, at worst, they ultimately only hurt themselves. Sure they annoyed the BBC and drove some fans into a frothing rage, but the money on the line was (seemingly) their own.

technically true. But alcohol age is 18.

Shit. That's a half-finished of a post from days ago. I forgot to delete it from the draft box.

It was originally a sarcastic remark about how, between that and the drinking age, the US military would practically have to invade and arrest the entire Australian young-adult population. You know, in the USA's noble effort to uphold the CA Penal Code.

I'm not going to sift through your quotes @bonesmccoy2014 and answer questions that are clearly not aimed at me. For almost five pages now you have been addressing me while discussing @Michael Hinman and @carlosp and they're adult-enough to answer your questions.

Thanks again for your response.
In case you didn't see the question, the question I had posed to you directly was attempting to understand where the story that there were widespread calls from CBS going to multiple projects? The question is to explore the timing of your video released with Pedraza and MB. I am concerned because the timing of the video release coincided with the conclusion of funding campaigns for other worthy projects. It led me to consider why the timing of the video release was made for this particular week.

Regarding the interpretation of California laws on privacy, again the location of the other parties is irrelevant so long as one person on the call is from California. It is the California resident who's privacy rights must be protected per their own request. And, as I stated prior, my postings are not intended as a criticism of your work. The posting is more to inform and offer the perspective of a person from a different crowd than those which appear to regularly frequent this forum.

Looking forward to reading your response to the question I have posed.

Frankly, I think it @bonesmccoy2014 might be attempting to frighten @TREKZONE.org into being silent on the topic of Axanar. Vague enough not to be an out and out threat, but certainly the feel of "If you know what's good for you..."

I have already dispelled this mistaken view. I have no such intent and no such interest. As I have already posted in several comments, the intent is to encourage Hinman and Pedraza to please consider the collateral damage that their misbehavior creates. That is all.
