CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Some cross posting.

"It's personal"

So often those who fervently support Axanar make this accusation when anyone dares to cite specific facts that support CBS' case, remind people of the poor decisions and actual misdeeds of the production team, or make any other comments that could be considered "negative."

For once, I will agree with them. For me, this is personal. The concept of Axanar as a fan film is sound - it fills in a period of Trek history that would likely never be touched by the studio, would likely have stellar special effects (for a fan film), had some great Trek actors attached to the project, and looked to be a fun little adventure. Nothing too earth shattering, but pretty decent all around.
The production team is full of people who have talent, and have done good work.
I wanted to see Axanar, and would have donated to the feature film. I still regret it that it won't be made.
My beef is not with the talented people who contributed to the project and those who believed in it, my beef is with one PERSON - namely Alec Peters.
He decided to use donor funds to build a rival studio, build a proprietary web portal, build a business that he could live off of, instead of using the money to make THE MOVIE.
He was "open" about the way funds would be used, but he always framed the discussion as if the studio and other projects that were solely designed to benefit him financially were "vital" to making Axanar.
He fostered and continues to foster divisions among Star Trek fans, exploiting negative comments and viewpoints of nuTrek to his own advantage.
He regularly censored anyone who spoke out against him, and surrounded himself with people who were willing to spy, attack, doxx, and do anything else to silence sincere people who questioned him.
He continues to regularly attack the actions of other fan films all in an attempt to dilute his own misdeeds.
He tries, desperately, to make himself some sort of standard bearer for fan films, announces schemes to get him out of his financial obligations, pretends to be transparent, is a self proclaimed expert, and is determined to move on to his next project, leaving behind yet another failed business, disappointed investors, and a warehouse full of empty promises.

Without his mismanagement, it is quite possible that Axanar would have been completed, the talented folks who contributed to the project would not be facing an endless hallway of closed doors, and none of us would be wasting our time typing 1000 word treatises on legal minutiae.

For me, it is personal, and Alec deserves the scorn heaped upon him. Axanar's failure is his fault.

Did Vic actually say this? Is it documented anywhere, or are the Axanar people the only ones saying it? Wouldn't Vic be angrier since reportedly "Prelude to Axanar" cost over $100,000 to produce? Where did this $70,000 figure suddenly come from? Why would Vic know that number and not $101,171 which the initial Kickstarter raised. According to Axamonitor, the total brought in for "Prelude to Axanar" was $113,833 while they reportedly spent $123,285.

Vic has never said any such thing; it's just more of AP pointing the finger and trying to bring down someone else he doesn't like. In fact, I would find it quite humorous if it weren't so pathetic. Peter's accusations and constant bad mouthing of Vic could be considered defamation; the very thing he is accusing Vic of doing. Vic has never made a public statement regarding Peter's or Axanar.

Yeah, I know he's claimed in the past that Vic is against Axanar, what I'm wondering is why would Alec say it cost $70,000 in that post and attribute it to Vic?

Peters just trying to change the narrative again, he figures he's the smartest man on the interwebs.

Back when I was looking at possibly donating to Axanar, I researched Peters and came across a lot of this kind of bashing of Vic Mignogna. Oddly, I never found even a single shred of corroborating evidence -- not even hearsay. Nobody else is saying this besides Peters -- least of all Mr. Mignogna himself. It looks like a one-sided feud.

That tells me something.

I don't think they can be considered defamation. I think they are defamation, full stop. Unless Peters wants to provide some proof?
