It bears repeating that all the "drama" surrounding the Axanar Fan page (which consists of about 5,000 Alec Peters sock puppets, 2,000 people who clicked "join" and then immediately clicked "unfollow", and about 1200 active members - most of whom follow only to watch the insanity and report it to other FB pages) is the best entertainment ever produced by Axanar Productions.

this.

it really just amazes me that these junior high school bullies believe the same highly constrained victimization environment exists on the net as at the point where they stopped their maturation efforts to enjoy their schoolyard dominance mechanism. guess they think cause they see teens using fb to bully, they can too. hope they enjoy standing on the bulge of Mt. St. Helens trying to shout it down.

a nonprofit set up to serve fans? yeah, right.

Not to pull a Leslie Owen, but I did "consult" (for a lack of better term) on the Star Trek film that never got made (after "Nemesis," but before J.J. took over). I didn't help with the story or anything, but Erik would call me just to make sure that he wasn't violating canon somewhere, and was staying with the spirit of what Star Trek was.

And outside the fact that he forgot to include nuclear weapons in the Romulan War, he did awesome. If you've never read the script of the movie that never was, you should. I believe it leaked several years ago (and it wasn't by me), you should read it. It's VERY good. And in all honesty, I was trying to talk Erik into pitching THAT as a Star Trek series. He and I even chatted about it, but didn't really get the ball going to try and publicize the idea before the Kurtzman announcement.

Erik is a wonderful guy and an extraordinary writer. And while I did enjoy what JJ did with Trek (despite some plotholes), I really think Erik would've really done something wonderful for Star Trek. And once again, something amazing from someone who isn't even a Star Trek fan.

All this is very unsettling, how donors are being treated. It was anticipated though, as things started to collapse.

A tip for Sandy (or any upset donors), while you may not get good results complaining to Kickstarter or Indiegogo, you can complain to Paypal. Paypal is very sensitive to fraud. They will freeze the account and make Axanar provide proof they have shipped what was promised etc.. Since Axanar has not shipped all they promised there account will stay in a frozen state.

You maybe able to file a fraud claim with the IRS:
https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/How-Do-You-Report-Suspected-Tax-Fraud-Activity?
While you may have no actual proof yourself of IRS fraud, it would at least get them to investigate and they may turn up all sorts of things.

Also there is complaining to the Better Business Bureau: http://www.bbb.org/ If there enough complaints to the BBB that could incite a possible criminal investigation.

Lastly, since this story seems 'new worthy' some of those local news investigation teams may want to report on it with enough negative donor input.

As a consumer you have rights, and there are options, it is just knowing what ones to take. I would suggest getting together with other upset donors to form a 'Class Action' group, there is power in numbers, and you will get better results.

specifically, office of consumer protection / Attorney General state officials in more than one state have brought actions against crowdfunded projects which clearly did not deliver the goods, for example

Pennsylvania Attorney General files consumer protection lawsuit against Kickstarter half million funded project that failed to deliver shirts (December 2015):

if no Axanar film or acceptable substitute is made and its due to what looks like knowing malfeasance by the project runners, then state officials might be interested out in California.

of course, as many have pointed out, if there ends up being no money left it might be pointless. but it is an active option that donors may have, if Axanar doesn't find a way to make good on the money. which I don't think they possibly can, having repurposed an entire donation cycle retroactively to building a studio for their future use. I've never figured out how you can retroactively repurpose a half million in donations for a specific deliverable for the customer, to 'infrastructure' costs for an expanded objective (and personal profit). the donors didn't agree to that when they donated, is my impression.

This is "Star Trek: The Beginning," correct?

If you have a copy of Star Trek: The Beginning, I would love to read it. I haven't been able to find it anywhere on line, and I've been searching for years.

Provided he had changed the main character's name in subsequent drafts. "Tiberius Chase"? Yeeesh! ;)
