CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

Mike Bawden (the AXANAR PR person) helped get the Fan Film Factor Blog off the ground - so yeah I guess Johnathan Lane feels indebted to AXANAR for that. (Doesn't make him anything less of a disgusting Alec Peters/Axanar sycophant IMO.)

He started off writing articles for axanarproductions.com first on first films and then it got split off into its own site presumable so it looked more unbiased.

And in the latest captains log, LFIM gives axanar fans permission to go out and violate the Star Trek copyright in "Open Source Axanar"

I couldn't help myself - I had to reply (although I'm sure Mr. Peters will never post it, or will edit it like he has others posts tom his blog); so just in case - here's what I posted:

Gee sir, I thought in your agreed settlement – you stipulated to, and agreed that ‘Axanar’ (and everything else related to the Star Trek IP ) legally belonged to CBS/Paramount. It’s interesting that even after being sued and taking a settlement I believe you stated over and over in interviews and on-line social media that you’d NEVER take; it seems you still fail to grasp that – or what you agreed to in said settlement.

Sad.

I see a pattern.

Sell to the fans that there is a large field of Trek infringement which can be 'open sourced' (last time, 'fairly used'), while knowing that the IP obstacles will slow it way down.

Meanwhile, draw on the new supporters to help fund and build something else. A private for profit project, this time around, a SF Studio.

The first time, do "Axanar" yourself. The second time, be the unofficial leader (after all, you have the sets and costumes).

Both times, use Trek IP as a recruiting mechanism for finding people who can be donors for your private for profit studio goal.

Both times, set up an IP infringement stance vs the studios which will drag out the amount of time that supporters will be sticking around, and thus can be asked for money.

Why bother actually going through the motions of doing Trek when you can multilevel market it and get the donations anyway?

Keeping the Axanar project alive in any form attached to Alec past the 30 minutes allotted sure seems like an indirect way to exploit Trek IP to fundraise for a private venture again.

Axanar as a MLM scheme?

That would be brilliant, except nobody needs to buy permission from Lord Precious Pants to use the concept. I guess he didn't really think that through.

Whoops. :techman:

His supporters think they do. He was asked permission on the axanar comic book for example.

Well call it shareware with pirated copyrighted code inside the wrapper.

(I say) you can have (their IP) free of restrictions, I give you plausible deniability, but if you'd like me to give you more things "for free" in the future, or upgrade to the full access to sets and props experience, please support my efforts.

And if you are successful, please feel free to share (someone elses' IP) too! Just make sure you leave info about my projects in it. Lets get a whole ecosystem going, all donating back to me!

Its the sharing economy, don't ya know!

Dang nearly every page I flip to, it's Axanar this and Axanar that. meanwhile in subsection of the U.S population, 16 million people don't know what it is because they weren't yet even born since Axanar released it's professionally made material and another 9.4 million people could care less because they've died since then.

Film your own axanar movie but if you want it to follow axanar canon make sure you film in lawrenceville so I can take credit for your movie when done. I can't help due to settlement but I'll make sure you have all the right advice to make a canon worthy axanar project. which I will then take complete credit for..

and you can use ares digital.. for an extra fee. We'll also help with fundraising.. for an extra fee. RMB will citique our script.. for an extra fee. Oh yeah and your project must pay for sushi for the whole office staff every day of filming

Blahblahblah. All talk, no rock.

In the years that All Precious has been talking about making the best Trek ever and not doing it for realz and living it up on donor funds, someone else actually made a whole bunch of new Trek. Eleven episodes, to be exact. While they were continuing to build new sets, not making excuses for not completing the ones they'd started.

What an asswipe. :ack:

Wow, I really hope he has some real evidence to back up what he's saying about Carlos, because those seem like some pretty massive accusations to be throwing around.
It is a little agravatting that we do have members of the anti-Axanar crowd doing stuff like that, because that just gives Peters all ammo he needs to accuse everybody who doesn't like him or Axanar of being horrible, evil people.

I do love how manipulative the blog posts from both Peters and Lane are. "I'm not accusing anyone of anything (but look at all reasons why it looks like they did something)". "No, Axanar isn't canon (but "head canon is a thing, we're, great and Discovery just ripped us off)", ect., ect.

He has nothing but hatred for Carlos, who keeps using pesky timeline and facts to bolster his writings. Trying to tie Carlos to someone who bashes Axanar is defamatory and possibly libelous, although I'm sure Carlos wouldn't bother for any number of reasons. I don't think you meant to, but it appears that your lumping Carlos in with Anti-Axanar types whom you feel are going too far. Some people may indeed be going too far, but it's unfair IMHO to lump him in with any such group.

Sometimes I read these post about Alec and his 'haters' and really have to roll my eyes. There are a lot more real world things to worry about than Alec shenanigans. To me Alec is a criminal who got away with ripping off fans and still is trying to find ways to milk the fan base. Like O.J. (to a much lesser degree) he got away with a crime and many people are mad that he did. The best thing everyone can do is simply ignore him (Axanar fans and detractors alike). Alex feeds on attention both negative and positive so people need to treat him like the little nobody loser he is. Alec has yet to prove himself as a the high end producer he claims to be. Until he can put out come critically acclaimed productions he does not deserve the attention he gets.
