If it is a hobby then yes. It would be very much like someone going hunting or fishing and inviting friends over to dine on the catch. How about I liked to fish, but I needed to start a GoFundMe to a boat and fuel, tackle and fishing gear? I'll need food for my trip, so add that. I forgot I need a NEW pickup truck and a trailer to tow the boat around............Oh and when my fishing trip is over I get to keep everything.......no matter if I catch any fish..........

And with YouTube views he will get ad revenue. So after my fishing trip, I'm going to charge you if you want to eat the fish I catch.

If AP is involved in this scenario then after getting the money he would never get around to going fishing and blame the dock master, fuel station, etc. for him not being able to to fish.

Fishing with Kenny?
Damn-it Kenny, just take my money!

Do we get patches? Do you mail the fish out, @KennyB ? And if it takes you years to do so, do you send out gas masks for the stench, or are those extra?

If that person had donated an extra $1 they would have moved into the Admiral rank. Instead they are at the very upper limit of Commodore ($501-$1000).

I also just noticed this on the GoFundMe page:
SCHEDULE

Currently, our plan is to film in November 2019 for a release in the first half of 2020. However, that is dependent upon this crowd-funding campaign reaching its goal before the end of this summer. If it takes longer than that, production could potentially need to be delayed. So please help us reach our goal quickly.

I read the blogs about Interlude and its budget ; I'm confused a bit about the tunics.
So Alec insists on using his tailor to make the costumes , which increases the cost of Interlude...Lane assures us he can't give the costumes to Axanar, but what would stop him from 'selling' them at cost to Alec and then donating the money privately to Axanar ?

The really odd thing to me is, if we assume Alec will make the movie some day ; We are supposed to believe that he will have an entirely new set of tunics made even though his buddy has a closet full of tunics made to his spec.... that seems ... unlikely.

I think my favorite part is that Lane mentions in the blog that we can't expect folks to volunteer their time for a fan project; then someone in the comments tries to enthusiastically volunteer to help with the sewing only to get told they have to pay someone because Alec said so :P

The main thing with asking for money is that you should say what you are going to do and then do what you said. I don't care if it is to fish as a hobby, or to feed the world; or making a movie to learn the craft, or entertain the fans; or simply to learn how to hop on one foot, because you are bored, or because you lost your other leg. Just be honest and let each potential donor decide if that is something worthy of their donation.

Personally, I'm not going to pay for you to fish as a hobby, or to make a movie to learn that craft, or to hop on one leg for fun. But, I would donate so that you can take up the difficult profession of fishing to feed the hungry millions of the world, or to make a movie I would enjoy seeing, or to help you recover from an injury.

But, mostly, I don't want to donate to someone who is lying to me - saying they are going to do one thing, but intending to do another.

They've been doing it for years now, and it has finally bit them in the butt. There's a class-action lawsuit against them that just got filed. You can read through the sordid history of Anovos's nondelivery here. I recommend starting at the end and reading backwards, because there's 300 pages and counting.

Yikes. I admit, I only kinda skimmed the links, but I see now how bad they are.

Anovos is slow as crap, but they usually deliver.

However, let's not kid ourselves that this isn't a nuisance lawsuit since they're also suing Disney, etc. Note that after not receiving about $4300 of pre-ordered merchandise after about two years, three months prior to filing the lawsuit the plantiff pre-ordered $36,000 in additional merchandise that he knew wouldnt get fulfilled immediately in order to inflate his claims. That looks to me more like someone who saw a get rich scheme and less like a dissatisfied customer.

The fundraising for Interlude has begun. $1600 so far:
https://fanfilmfactor.com/2019/06/12/my-interlude-gofundme-launches-with-1600-in-just-6-hours/

Looking at the GoFundMe Page, one donation is $1000:

Let’s roll!!!!! Some of those early donations are from crew members. Like the guy getting paid to make the costumes. And kinda telling the $1000 one is anonymous. Priming the pump!
I really hope that is the case, and nobody else is actually stupid enough to give money to this.

Yeah, that is a bit odd.

To me, it looks like someone throwing good money after bad, which seems to be a recurring theme in all these "kickstarter dramas".

It just doesn't seem like going after "beggars with LLCs" is a good "get-rich" strategy.

Looks like they are not getting THAT much support from previous donors.....from the official Facebook Page on the new fundraiser..........

Nobody drops $36,000 three months prior to filing a lawsuit after waiting over two years - that's got ulterior motive written all over it. They also probably aren't expecting to receive $5 million in damages from Anovos, the "get rich" part is suing Disney, CBS and NBC/Universal.

What's most likely is that those companies, which undoubtedly required Anovos to fully indemnify them as part of the license, terminate those licenses with Anovos, Anovos goes out of business, and the plantiff loses $40,000.
