Ah, yes. My mistake in reading comments like "moronic" and "gouge my eyes out" as complaints ;)

Fair enough.
Well, frankly, the last time I discussed my problems with STD in detail with you, in the Discovery thread, you weren't satisfied with my concerns. I see no reason to repeat the experience with you here. If you really want to know my complaints, go back to the Disco thread and reread our conversation there. I'm pretty sure my opinions of the show haven't changed since then.

True, though I figure tangents are inevitable in any long thread, particularly one which is measured in years.

But yeah, the bickering about styles of Trek, paying for it, etc.? That's a part of what's being exploited here. People's preferences are being monetized by folks who don't have the rights to do so.

Exactly. LFIM identified a schism in the fandom (those who didn't particularly care for JJTrek) and then worked to exploit it 7 ways from Sunday - a classic 'divide-and-conquer' move.

It's not a matter of satisfaction. If the show isn't for you then it's not for you. I just don't get the "demon spawn" and "gouge my eyes out" comments, that's all.

gggggggggggggggggggggggggggyff

Yeah! stick it to the cable Man!
I rarely get TV time but still there are times I require an escape to some other galaxy with a different set of social issues
There are just way to many shows I watch on the cable channels for me to give it up. Even when I watch them online they make me sign in with my cable provider, so I still need to have it to watch them that way too.

I saw this happening as well. LFIM's biggest "dissenters" are also the material he uses to rally his supporters.
I'd rather talk about anything but that particular event in 2016 which totally overshadowed some of my best times.

And even if you have it right, if I were willing to pay to see STD in any form, wouldn't it be cheaper to just pay for CBSAA for a month and binge season one than it would to buy the season on Blue Ray or DVD?
Yup. (And I think we can all agree that buying entire seasons of shows on DVD and Bluray is mad expensive in general. To that end, if you watch a season of a show a month, Netflix probably pays for itself in that regard.)
They only have to pay for it if they want to watch it. Don't like it? You don't pay for it. Problem solved!
How do you know you don't like it if you can't see it because you never paid for it?

And if the problem is "I want to watch new Star Trek I actually like, but there isn't any", then how does not watching Discovery solve that problem?

It's totally fine if you're tired of hearing people complain about things like Discovery and All Access. There is clearly no shortage of opinions on the subject. However, I'm concerned that there may be a subtle attempt to de-legitimize people's opinions by simply saying "If you don't like it, don't watch it", which is basically a blanket excuse for ignoring any kind of media criticism.
Spoilers: It's behind a pay wall because it wouldn't last a hot second on network television. And it's not really a part of the cultural zeitgeist. Like, people aren't really talking about it, except for the same old same old people.
I don't see a point in arguing what qualifies as the "cultural zeitgeist". Suffice to say, I have friends and family who HAVE scene it and I'd like to converse with them about it, so at some point I'll probably get All Access for a month or two and binge it.
Is that a dig at the fact I used to be a weather forecaster........???
As the Good Book says in Exodus 22:18: "Thou shalt not suffer a weather man to live!" (You don't even want to hear about the next verse...)

How do you know you don't like it if you can't see it because you never paid for it?

1. The pilot premiered on CBS for... *checks* ... free.

2. You could always get CBS All Access for a month and try it, binge the entire first season for 10 bucks. Don’t like it, you don’t have to keep paying.

Honestly, I don’t see the problem, except someone wanting free content.

And if the problem is "I want to watch new Star Trek I actually like, but there isn't any", then how does not watching Discovery solve that problem?

Low ratings might make changes? Maybe they don’t care about you anymore? Watch Axanar? Find something worth your time to watch? Read a book? I honestly don’t get this as a serious problem.

When the criticism is shallow what do you expect? All Access is a channel like any other. No one is forcing anyone to watch it.

Edited to add: by criticism I mean of All Access, not Discovery

Great! Sounds like you’ve solved an easy problem!

Well, thankfully, you can have one month free :techman:

But, that's not what that's trying to do. It's noting that if people don't want to pay for it 1) there are legitimate ways to watch it without (as Professor Zoom noted) and 2) it is hard for me to take criticism of a platform seriously or a show if individuals have not seen it.

Now, if they have seen it and want to discuss the merits thereoff I'm all for that. But, the arguments around All Access stem more from "I don't want to pay" rather than the content itself.

It's the free content part that makes people upset.

New on AxaMonitor: ANOTHER AXA-RESIGNATION Longtime Axanar spokesman Mike Bawden tells Trekzone he resigned last December amid a very public dispute between Alec Peters and former director Robert Meyer Burnett — but as usual, not a word from Peters about this key departure. AxaMonitor's coverage tells you why. Read more »
I can see it now:

Alec Peters: "Mr. Mike Bawden NEVER promoted the AXANAR project! I had to write and do everything PR wise, including EVERYTHING he told people..."
:guffaw:

Not to be a dick but can we please take this pay per view Disco discussion someplace else and stay on topic here? It has nothing to do with the topic of this thread and we shouldn't have to wade through post after post about CBSAA when we are looking for info on Axanar.

Thank you.

Alec's latest revisionist spin on where the money went:

"We raised 1.4 million and there was basically 2 sets of financials: The set will all the donor money; which was a subset of a bigger thing. So, 1.4 millon in donor money, where did that all go? It all went to the production. Nothing went to me, I didn’t get any expenses reimbursed – nothing! No salary for me. Rob Burnett got a lot of salary, Christian Gosset got salary, other people. I didn’t take any salary.

"The larger set of financials was the overall Axanar financials which included all the money I put in – at the time 100,000 dollars or whatever it was, but at the time I was supporting myself by selling my collection and that’s how I funded things. When you see the financials: Well, if you see the Big Picture Financials that 100,000 dollars of which was mine or so – yeah I was writing off all my entertainment, my lunches, my sushi, my car, all that stuff. So the Haters take that stuff and say thing like “oh you were buying sushi with donor money” – no you idiots! We were not buying sushi with donor money, I was buying the sushi. I must have bought Rob Burnett lunch for 2 years (the guy was always broke) and happily do it, because he was a friend.

"So that’s why the Haters are so absurd, they don’t understand basic accounting."

Oh, AP, your own BS "financials" said you were taking a salary. And there are sworn pleadings saying you bought tires, insurance, gas cards, etc. That's not us saying that. It's you, and it's Loeb & Loeb. Go yap at them about accounting. And while you're at it, look in the mirror. And remember your fun attempt at creating a studio? Yeah, we didn't make that up. You're the one who said the studio was the endgame.

But hey, you'll just keep on deflecting, when so many others have made so much more, in so much less time, and for so much less money.

You whine like a tween. You're within spitting distance of my age. I don't go begging my friends to fund my fun. My husband and I work for a living. I pay for editing, etc. out of my own pocket. I have never held a fundraiser for that. I have given away books to libraries, too. On my own dime. And plenty of people on this thread and its predecessor have given away hours of labor, acting, sewing, building, applying makeup, driving, and doing a whole helluva lot more.

But hey, keep telling us what a big awesome spender you are. Keep on yapping about how awesome Axa is going to be.

Axanar is pining for the fjords, fer chrissakes.

Only one question matters. Where's the movie, Alec?

Exactly on target on all points; I wish you would post that at FFF

My only regret is that I can only "like" this once.

Aw, thanks. And yeah, it'd be shot down at FFF faster than I would jump out of a vat full of spiders.
