I'm not familiar with this one. Who are DeBord and Armstrong?

In AxaMonitor Daily's late edition May 15:
Two new fronts have opened in Axanar producer Alec Peters’ legal wars. Legal papers filed this week in Nevada and Iowa feature a couple old names you’ll recognize as Peters’ legal bluster against former Axanar director Robert Meyer Burnett may be backfiring on him.

These new cases — backed up by actual evidence filed in court, unlike Peters’ claims against Burnett — threaten Peters with tens of thousands in damages. He may even lose some of his vaunted props collection. Read the preview, or sign up for AxaMonitor Daily.

Seriously? That “collection” was the only thing he really had going for him all this time. Now it turns out he doesn’t even own that? He really doesn’t have a pot to piss in, does he?

The way that was worded it sounds like the collection is owned by some LLC he's set up - he's likely the sole owner, but since the LLC didnt enter into the agreement its assests are protected.

Part 2 : EVERYTHING MUST GO ! THE SALE TO END ALL SALES ! WHATEVER IS LEFT NEEDS TO CLEAR OUT !

So poor poor Peters needs to have a going out of business sale to even make ends meet ? ;-)

For someone who 'claims' they know about the law, they sure are in a lot of legal hot water aren't they ?

Still 30 days... has September, April, June & November, Where's the Movie Alac ?

And to think last month we thought it was quiet around here!

Just when you think he can't get any lower, another schenanigan gets pulled. This must be the longest car crash in automotive history!:brickwall:

Is it really that simple to try and 'protect' the collection?

Actually, yes. Anyone who owns a small business would be very smart to set up an LLC to protect their assets.

I know someone who worked it the other way around. They personally own the building as a private entity and rents it to the business he owns. If the business gets sued, which is more likely than him getting sued as a private person, the building is protected.

Same thing with home owners insurance. Once my house was paid off enough, I increased both my car and home insurance liability up high enough it wouldn't be worth it for anyone to forgo an insurance settlement and sue me directly. I double-checked state law, and yes, that can happen.

I can't fault Mr. Peters for placing the collection under the LLC's umbrella. I'd do the same if I were him ... except I wouldn't go around the internet and P*'ing people off on Twitter and Facebook.

You're exactly right. There's nothing wrong with protecting valuable assets in this manner if they're used as part of a business (in Peters' case, such as his Propworx LLC). The issue at hand is that he shouldn't have secured a personal loan using the collection as security without the entity that legally owns them being a party to the agreement.

This is an easy problem for Peters to fix but he often appears to be constitutionally incapable of pursuing more prudent courses of action.

Have some of mine...

Wow, every time you think this whole situation can't get any crazier, Peters finds a way to surprise you.

Jonathan Lane's Interlude fan-film is to cost nearly $19,000 to make:

Actually, his itemization of the budget seems quite realistic. If I were him, I'd have budgeted for airfare, though. Also, the patch thing is a big silly. He could have saved a few hundred bucks by making an executive decision on what patches he needs for wardrobe. Aside from that, the budget seem pretty on point, but feel free to correct me, as I'd be happy to learn a thing or two about budgeting.

I skimmed his budget.

yeah. me too. great attitude to not put any of your own cash into your project, but making sure LFIM gets some of it

(direct quotes from the same page, last comment: )

"$2,000-$5,000 of my own money would result in a very fast divorce here..."
"Now, for the record, Alec did offer to let me use the studio and bridge set completely for free, but I am insisting on paying..."

I also like the choice of actors:

"I need him [Alec] to play Garth"

i'm sure there'll be no problems whatsoever, and it'll have axanar quality^^

What fascinates me is that only one comment gives any hint to the fact that AP has pulled this "setting a date' bullshit before, and Slow Lane went into a solilloquy about smelling flowers.

Slow lane better be careful, though. If it turns out that AP getting his film rolling depends on Lane getting his film rolling, and somehow Lane falls short, that's going to be another "good friend" Alec tosses under the bus.
