Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

I'm going to sticky this thread, since it comes up so often. We can use this as a catch-all.

Yeeeeesssssss!!! :scream: :D

Okay, so since Aatrek was nice enough to honor my request (or maybe he just had the idea himself and didn't even notice that I asked about this), I decided to go ahead and dig around for the other threads on this subject. Since the thread's name was changed from DS9-Relaunch, and is now a stickied catch-all, this seems like a good place to post them, if anybody else is interested in past Trek Lit "casting calls."

The only one I could find on the TrekBBS: Casting Titan

And a few from the Simon Says Trek boards:

Casting Novel Characters

Casting S.C.E.

And finally, another Casting Titan

Enjoy!

John Rhys Davies is everyone's favorite Tellarite, Mor glasch Tev. (Or David Ogden Stiers, if you're so inclined.)

Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch

Q420, I had just read that bit about Bowers the other day, and it kinda threw me, too. I was picturin' someone younger when I was readin' all the other relaunch novels up to this one.

I have one question - who the hell is Suzie Plakson?

OMG! which shows have you been watching?? she's, like, the female jeff coombs!

Jeffrey Combs I have noticed reappearing! I promise to pay more attention in future ;)

Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch

I don't know if anybody else watches "Mad About You," but I watch reruns of it in the mornings, and Suzie Plakson actually had a recurring character there as "Dr. Joan." Nice to see a Trek alum getting some more work. :)

When I wrote Tev's debut story, it was with Stiers's appearance and voice in mind, although I made him somewhat shorter than Stiers (or Rhys-Davies). However, JRD would be a good choice.

Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch

I can see that. Though I'm also kinda picturing James Earl Jones and/or Dennis Haysbert.
Those two are missing the accent. Mazibuko, like Mokae, is from southern Africa. :)

Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch

Okay, so the actors don't normally speak with that accent, but that doesn't mean they can't.

Treir - Tricia Helfer with green skin...

Me too!

And Bowers is black!? Well, I thought Akaar was black until I saw the cover for The Red King. Maybe on the back cover of the books the ethnicity of the characters could be printed. :D

Would human concepts of ethnicity apply to, say, a Capellan, though? And what do you call, say, a Tellarite? Or a Vulcan?

Re: Casting Trek Lit

Branching out a bit, I've always pictured Jennifer Connelly as Soleta.

Considering that his parents were played by Julie Newmar and Ben Gage, that would be impressive...

Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch

We've seen "black" Vulcans, Romulans and Bajorans, "Asian" Romulans, "white" Klingons (TOS-style, anyway) -- are we to take this as an indication that these species also evolved along similar racial/ethnic lines to humans? Are these superficial differences of any importance to alien cultures? Have they been?

*ponders*

And back OT --
Christine Vale -- I always see Amanda Tapping when picturing Vale.

Re: Casting Trek Lit

I like Connelly as Soleta, though I always thought Lucy Lawless.

For Min Zife and Koll Azernal, I pictured Kevin Spacey and Ian McShane, respectively.

While we're doing presidents and chiefs of staff, I thought Bobbie Norman as Nan Bacco and Lauren Velez as Esperanza Piniero.

Re: Casting Trek Lit

Well, since everybody's talking about the DS9 relaunch and such, I'd like to branch out a little and give my fantasy casting for ENT's Daedalus duology. When I do a fantasy casting, I'm most concerned about the voice, so it doesn't always bother me if the person doesn't look the part. Nor does it bother me if I use the same person in twenty zillion different parts (hey, if Jeffrey Combs can do it...). So anyway, some of these are kind of out in left field, but here they are:

DAEDALUS
Marshall Kairn: Vaughn Armstrong
Royce: Ronald Reagan (Hellcats of the Navy era.)
Neesa Trant: Shelley Long (The book said that this character was black-haired, but I couldn't get Shelley Long's voice out of my head.)
Guildsman Lind: Rene Auberjonois
Ferik Reeve: Judge Reinhold

DAEDALUS’S CHILDREN
Captain Monique Duvall: Tia Carrere
General Makandros: Gene Hackman
Colonel Maj Wooler: James Earl Jones (after seeing him every week on The Unit, I think Dennis Haysbert would be more apt for the role).

Re: Casting the DS9 Relaunch

What is everyone obsession with Sean Connery?
The man is a terrible actor. He refuses/is unable to affect other accents. His Russian was Scottish, his Irish Policeman was Scottish, his Spaniard/Egyptian was Scottish.
A lot of his recent films have been critical & commerical flops.
Casting him(based on looks alone) as Vaughn would be a big mistake.
