Case dismissed! Discovery and Tardigrade game "not similar"

And STD stinks. Sorry, been a Trek fan since '79 and I honestly think it's junk. Live with it.

I've been a fan since 1975, and I think Discovery is bland and unimaginative. That doesn't absolve prior Trek of its many sins committed over the last 50+ years.

Does that work in reverse? Is disbelieving him a pro-Disco bias test? Anyway, as I said, I got ripped off once, I know how it feels, and I think he has a case and I hope he wins if he makes a good case.

Opinions of Disco aside, he did not get ripped off. Look at the timeline please and tell me how someone could rip him off. I’m willing to entertain the idea that he got ripped off. But no one has managed to prove that outside of inklings and feelings and desires. The facts are stacked against him.

It's clear they ripped him off is why. I had a script that was plagiarized and I did nothing, it's a hard case to win; but I wish I had, now. I'm rooting for him! He should get a fair hearing. I hope he wins!
He is getting a fair hearing. There is nothing illegal or unfair about this proceeding.

This has nothing to do with the legal case, nor is it a matter of fact. The facts of the case are that the timeline doesn't line up to support his case.

I don't understand why any threads exist in this forum. Just do this: post a poll with only one option.

Is Disco The Best Trek Ever?
Yes! (2,000 Votes)

Who Loves Bad Robot?
Everybody! (1500 Votes)

I don't find that timeline convincing. There was plenty of time to introduce the concept after the series was announced. That's what the case is about, to determine that.

Just tell me: is any dissenting opinion tolerated on these boards? It wasn't like this before. It seems strangely oriented toward blind support of anything the current regime shoves in our faces.

ATM I don't have anything positive to say. But Trek will outlast this, you know, I'm not dropping it because of Bad Robot's stupid decisions.

I would hope for the fair hearing part.

I've been pretty consistent in my criticisms of Discovery since it premiered. I think that criticism that is more than "it stinks" or "Star Trek never had canon violations before" has been more than welcomed.

EDIT: I also hate the uniforms. Looks like someone let a teenager loose with the Starfleet Bedazzler.

So, yeah. You can be openly critical of the show.

Whoever got their work out there in the public domain first should have priority - in my opinion.

Bad Robot has no affiliation with Discovery.

There's tons of criticism of the show in this forum. Instead of coming in all full of piss and vinegar and with a massive undeserved chip on your shoulder directed at the wrong targets, why not take a look around first and get the lay of the land and then post some constructive criticism meant to generate discussion?

You do realize that an opinion is not inherently of worth? In order to be valuable it kinda has to be informed, and the one who holds it should appear to have put at least some thought into it.

Take for example your assertion that the timeline is not convincing. Fine. Show us your work, point out the parts where the timeline seems lacking, the reasonable doubt. If it's indeed there, I'll stand corrected. But just ignoring the inconvenient truths that tv shows (especially big budget and effect heavy ones) need a lot of pre-production and therefore time, and that from their filming schedule we know that their tardigrade was over and done with by the time Abdin's launch trailer featuring his giant tardigrade was posted to youtube, does not a worthwhile opinion make.

So, please. You want us to take your opinion seriously? Back. It. Up. Otherwise spare us the handwringing how everybody is "intolerant" or opposing you out of "blind support".

"Public Domain" would mean that the claim of the original creator/his estate on a work has ended, at which point the work can't really be plagiarized anymore.

And also, that is not how copyright law works? Hence the lawsuit. Just because Discovery and Abdin's (nonexistent) game have some similarities does not necessarily mean that one copied the other, and especially when one of the works is relatively obscure you have to prove that the "later" party even saw it at any point.

It's worse than "Bad Robot." It's "Secret Hideout." :techman:

Not to go too far off the rails at this point, but I'm curious: where do you stand on the CBS vs Axanar case? :D

Indeed I have read the legal authorities in this thread determine the law in several posts. However it is still my opinion that he got there first... yes, yes, yes no one will ever be able to prove who sees what on YouTube or the Net so yada yada yada this makes it 'fair' and legal that he is getting the exact (lack) of recognition he deserves. He will lose because how dare he have the nerve to have presented an eclectic group of characters in a trailer for a game he hasn't completed... (long sentence ahead) that just so happened to have been mimicked (co-incidentally) by creative geniuses who would never stoop so low to have been influenced elsewhere. I can hear George Harrison singing "My Sweet Lord" to the strains of "She's so Fine" as I write this ;)

We have BTS images showing them using a life sized Tardigrade stand in on set, the image was taken before Abdin even released any footage showing that his Tardigrade was also life sized.
