Cardassians/ Damar and everyone around him

Wel thats nearly half a century. And half a century sounds quite long ago...ok compared to the Universe its just a split of a second, but compared to a todays human life its quite a lot. And as I also imagine Dukat in his 50th and Damar around 30 I didn´t like them showing up back then...well Damar first showed up in the second book and as a rather young man..still...

You think Kira was "surprized" that Damar suddenly hated her so much/ about the way he changed into such a unpleasant fellow?

Just wondring, cause when they met on the Groumall it seemed, he did not hate her and seemed like a decent guy. That also might indicate, that Dukat not only spoke a lot about Bajor/ Bajorans in general, but also very specifically about Kira. Maybe speaking about how he is so charmant, but she so stubborn etc.
So that Damar sort of got "Kira-hate" injected into him that way...also Damar reacts taken aback/ surpized when Dukat chastizises him, when he is too rough with her... which might also indicate he heard many complains from Dukat about her and does not understand why he should be polite to her (besides the fact that she also is Bajoran...and that they sort of have a similiar rang on DS9, which surly also not helps, as Damar certainly would like it better to be the dominant one).

I think Damar grew to hate her on his own. He had to work with her in ops and he was no idiot, I'm sure he could clearly see she was not on their side. She never would be on their side. With her attitude, she was getting on his nerve. And the fact that Dukat wouldn't let him touch her was only additionally frustrating him.

I personally enjoyed that bickering between them :)

And no, I don't think an unpleasant Cardassian was surprising Kira ;)

Enjoyed the bickering as well. Would like to play mouse in the scenes we didn´t see (well ok, cause there were none written...but you know what I mean)... like when they had to go together through the personell things and well, whatever they had to coordinate together.
Also was it Damar personelly who had to give the Bajoran security back the weapons? I am sure Kira was ...well... smiling widely when he had to do that, while Damar probably looked even more grim than usual.

Just rewatching "They way of the warrior" and like always enjoying especially the scenes that have Dukat and Garak inside. I love the scene were Garak and Quark have the conversation about the Federation or were Garak goes to help Dukat fight the Klingons.
So polite...and yet always offending with those remarks.
They are both so different than Damar....so cultured...using language so fine and subtle.
I just wondered, what would Dukat have said, if he would have known, that Garak and Damar worked together to save Cardassia? He really hated Garak a lot.
Would Damar know why Dukat hated Garak so much?

TerokNor

I think he knew. Either from Dukat himself, or from some files on Garak or Dukat.

I'm sure Cardassians have some personel database and at least some parts are unclassified and accessible. And Damar, being a Glinn and Dukat's aide would have quite high security clearance.

Dukat might have ranted that Ziyal chose his enemy to him, which is another way Damar would ave learnt.

What kind of cities or Provinces are known from Cardassia? Only Lakarian City and ...oh God I forgot how the main City is called... simply Cardassia City?

Would you say Damar is more the guy who grew up in one of the big cities or in a smaller village in some province?

TerokNor

There are three that have been mentioned on the show that I know of: Lakarian City, Lakat, and Culat. I have not heard provinces mentioned on the show.

Lakat and Culat are bigger cities as well? Where are they?
And the main city, the one were Central Command is?

I think there was Cardassia City mentioned somewhere, but now I'm not sure if it was on the show. More likely some fan fiction, novels or RPGs (I used to play some - my nick is my Cardassian character, she was in command of CUS Damar in Bravo Fleet :)).

I think Lakat and Culat are big. There's a university in Culat, so it must be big enough.

I think Damar was a city boy.

I don't know why

Damar seemed to be educated, ambitious young man, brave and clever. While those features are not "city only", people in cities have more possibilities for education and different (noisier, demanding, huge competition) environment of development. I think if he would be from a quiet place (small town, village) he would be lost as head of Cardassia, but he wasn't. At the beginning he even thought he was really head of Cardassia, not a puppet. Weyoun had to bring him back to hard reality ("Don't let it go to your head, you serve only the Dominion pleasure").

I think Cardassia City is mentioned in the novels, but is not official.

How would Cardassians nickname there children? Darling, sweety, sweetheart? What other things are there in English?

Thanks,
TerokNor

You need it for your story, right? So make something up! What do YOU think Cardassians call their children?

Personally, I might recommend these names be written in the Cardassian language. If written cleverly, definitions can be provided in the dialogue.
