Cardassian Sunrise... (Extremely Minor Spoilers)

You know, you don't have to have met a Cardassian to get a Cardassian Sunrise. You just need to meet someone who knows someone who knows someone who has met one.

Yeah, I was thinking that the Cardassian Sunrise could be an element of Cardassian culture that had found its way into the Federation, even though the Federation may not have had direct contact with the Cardassians yet.

yeah, some explorer or trader could have been there, and brought back a recipe

the cardies were at war with the federation at one point, because Smiley O'Brien initially hated them quite a bit in TNG

See this bothers me though, if you're saying that the Feds knew of or indeed made contact with Cardassians prior to TNG, I would have a hard time believing they'd allow the occupation to have occured.

Maybe that's what a Cardassian Sunrise is: kanar.

I would hope not personally. But who knows. Kanar is kinda a dark caramelly or brown colour. Doesn't sound "sunrise-y".

There's no reason Cardassians can't have multiple alcoholic beverages :)

Also, there are many different varieties of kanar. The kanar we saw the Cardassians drink in "The Wounded" wasn't the same as the kanar that Damar was always drinking on DS9, etc.

The Prime Directive prevented the Federation from interfering in the occupation. It was considered an internal matter between the Cardassians and one of their subject races (especially since the Bajorans had originally invited the Cardassians to their world).

Actually, the TNG episode Ensign Ro kind of implies the Federation did know about the occupation of Bajor and they did allow it. In it, while Ro or some other Bajoran is talking about the tragedies that befell, Picard says something along the lines of "we were all saddened to hear about that, but it happened within Cardassian territory." Since it was in an area where the Federation had no jurisdiction, there wasn't anything they could do.

Doesnt bother me in the slightest.

Just casue we dont see them or know of first contact with them, doesnt mean that a drink cant migrate from one system to the next and so on. You can have a drink and not know where it came from all those years ago.

Besides, how many bar tenders or even you, the people that order them, know where their drink originated from within the nearest mile?

Nope, me neither. ;)

If we're going to assume that races that we, as viewers, didn't see until TNG were not known to the Federation until we, as viewers, saw them, then by the time TNG started, the Federation, we can assume, was only aware of about 5-10 races.

That's stupid.

Lies!

Everyone knows that each race is only allowed ONE alcoholic beverage!

Romulan Ale.

Klingon Blood Wine.

That's kinda always bothered me about Star Trek. A race is boiled down to ONE beverage! Cuz Romulans don't drink anything other than Romulan ale, Andorians only drink Andorian ale, Klingons only drink blood wine (or prune juice), and Cardassians only drink kanar.

^ Cardassians do have other drinks. In the morning, they like to drink...and God help them...'hot fish juice'.

Also, Klingons have raktajino, their version of coffee. Apparently it's really popular since a lot of DS9 characters liked it.

Oh yeah I forgot about raktajino. Regardless, I think it's safe to say that a Cardassian sunrise is different than kanar, otherwise they'd've just said kanar. Though it would have been cool if someone had ordered a raktajino lol.

some time during the enterprise period tobin dax meet an exiled
cardassian poet living on vulcan.

as for the occupation since that was a later period one should remember
the prime directive was seen in more literal light then during kirk's period.
we see a lot of cases including the planet were yar came from where the federation just stood by.

look the people that worf's brother had been studying would have been allowed to die out if worf's brother not acted even though they could have been saved with minimal interference using the plan he concocted.

French are famous for wine, English tea, and dont forget that Tennessee whiskey!;)

I would love it if we saw Cardassians, Andorians, Tellarites, Bajorans, in the new movie. We have so many aliens already, why can't we see more of the ones we know?
