The hatred of TLJ isn't as strong as some would like to believe.
How do you know that?

How do you exactly measure "hatred"?How do you know that?
You can't, so the statement was meaningless. How do you exactly measure "hatred"?
Especially the last line from Mr. Spock:Oh boy, the treatment of Rand in “The Enemy Within” would spark a thousand think pieces today.
^^^RAND: Captain? The impostor told me what happened, who he really was, and I'd just like to say that. Well, sir, what I'd like is...
KIRK: Thank you, Yeoman.
SPOCK: The, er, impostor had some interesting qualities, wouldn't you say, Yeoman?
The real Captain Marvel discussion is in the grading thread. This one turned into the sexist troll discussion. Can we maybe not get into the umpteenth round of 'internet discourse over the Last Jedi' and maybe stick to the movie that came out more recently? It's been what, at least a year since TLJ came out? Like, I don't care if you like it or don't. I'm just, personally, tired of this debate occurring over and over again.
Facts, like how TLJ was the best selling DVD and Blu-Ray the year it came out. Unless it was all haters who needed to buy it and constantly renew their hate. How do you know that?
I own the prequels, even though I don't like them. Completionist syndrome.Facts, like how TLJ was the best selling DVD and Blu-Ray the year it came out. Unless it was all haters who needed to buy it and constantly renew their hate.
There was also a study done based on tweets, the negative ones were the minority and even then a lot were from bots.
I don't think they're all sexist. It is a major undercurrent in the majority of the hate. But some just didn't get it. It's not their fault, they went in expecting lightsabers and got an examination on learning from failure and the larger scale problems of a galaxy torn apart by decades of war and civil war.I own the prequels, even though I don't like them. Completionist syndrome.
I just think it's wrong to assume that all TLJ haters are sexist - the movie has flaws, and some people might hate the movie for them. Personally, I left the theater thinking I just saw a masterpiece and was shocked to find that not a single person at my workplace liked it. And that includes women, so it's not like I work at some nazi-filled place.
Alright.
Honestly, I'm not sure how to categorize MCU superhero films. First of all, they don't all fit the same mold. They all share qualities of popcorn movies, but some of them manage to rise above that.
Besides Captain Marvel, I think both Winter Soldier and Black Panther also rose above it by having additional layers beyond just those needed for popcorn entertainment.
On the other hand, Dark World is an example of one that I found no virtues in besides pure popcorn. And, even though I think it's really good, I have a hard time seeing First Avenger as more than a popcorn film.
I thought Infinity War was more than popcorn entertainment, because I actually felt something afterwards that stayed with me long after the film was over. It felt exactly like I'd been to a funeral for a loved one. On the other hand, others think it was pure popcorn, mass-produced eye candy; many shrug the ending off and discuss a reset as inevitable . Obviously some of this is subjective.
I think perhaps blockbuster is a descriptive term that will prove to apply to Captain Marvel. As a term it's completely neutral as to artistic merit or lack thereof.
I'm open to better terms....
Plus Sif and Valkyrie. And then bring in Darcy for comic relief.I'm kind of starting to hope that Endgame ends with Thanos wiping the floor with all of the male Avengers, and then Captain Marvel gathers up Nebula, a resurrected Gamora, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, a resurrected Peggy Carter, Quake and May from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Jessica Jones, and Wasp and they all kick Thanos's ass. It would be worth it just to see all of the MRA types heads explode.
Oh man I completely forgot all the black panther characters. Yeah. Okoye, Shuri, Nakia, and the entire Dora Milaje definitely deserve a spot.No love for Okoye? Just because she's black?!

I knew I was forgetting people, add all them in there too.Plus Sif and Valkyrie. And then bring in Darcy for comic relief.
I definitely did not ignore Okoye because she's black, I just forgot about her. Definitely add her and Shuri too.No love for Okoye? Just because she's black?!
I'm not fond of The Last Jedi, but it has nothing to do with the "ick, it's a girl" reasons that the MRAs bitch about. In fact, my troubles areawith the male characters. I think Poe Dameron in this movie is a total and complete insubordinate moron whose idiocy got the entire resistance killed. Our heroes failing doesn't bother me. Our heroes pretty much failed in just about everything in The empire strikes back as well. It's that they failed so incompetently.I don’t assume all TLJ haters are sexist. Like it or not. But when someone’s criticism is based in sexism, I’m gonna call them on it.

For that alone, the Producers probably would have been fired had this been produced today.
