Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

There's been some speculation that the storyline won't be quite a straight adaptation of the comic.

So it'll probably be a bit more small scale. Makes sense, we've seen several comic movies tackle comic storylines before, but there were many changes from the source material. Sometimes this works (X2/God Loves Man Kills, Days of Future past, Spider-man 2/Spider Man no more etc.) sometimes it doesn't (Spider-man 3, X men The Last Stand and it's attempt to mix the Dark Pheonix and cure storylines from the comics etc. Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Gwen etc.).

7 things they can't use from the comic:

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

I wonder if they'll establish Sharon's relationship to Peggy here?
After seeing how big a role Sharon has in the Brubaker comics and being a big fan of Emily Van Camp on Revenge, I was rather disappointed in how small of a role Sharon Carter had in Winter Soldier. I'm hoping they'll at least a little more with her here.

Honestly I think they best thing to do is to drop that connection if they're going ahead with her as Cap's new romantic interest. It always struck me as more than a little creepy.

IIRC she wasn't even credited as Sharon Carter in TWD, just Kate (presumable just her cover name) / Agent 13.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Yeah, they'll probably avoid having her be a close blood relative of Peggy's. But I do hope that Agent 13 teaches Steve how to dance.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Seems likely she'll be present at Peggy's funeral and that will kick off their relationship, so I'd guess she will be a relation - probably a great great, grand-niece.

Peggy's not that old....

I think that goes without saying. Civil War involved nearly the entire superhero cast of that era in one way or the other with at least a dozen players on each side many of whom are not part of the MCU such as the Fantastic Four who have played pivotal roles in that storyline.

However the core of the story.. accountability vs. freedom can still be done quite good even if there won't be large scale battles between teams as in the comics, the battles will probably be smaller.

Given that the Russos delivered one of the best MCU movies with Cap 2 i'm quite confident they will do the story and its theme justice and we will see a movie that will shake the MCU up once again (strange that this is not reserved for the Avengers movies which are supposedly the cornerstones of the MCU).

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

A great-grandaunt perhaps, but almost certainly not a great-great-grandaunt. There's have to be a string of pretty young pregnancies for that to happen.

Let's assume 25 years per generation, which is probably a bit young by today's standards.

Peggy has a kid in 1946 (unlikely at this point);
Peggy has a grandkid in 1971;
Peggy has a great-grandkid in 1996.

Emily VanCamp was born in 1986. Even the possibility of Sharon being a great-granddaughter seems fairly remote.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Peggy's around 94. Sharon's in her twenties. Maybe one less great.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

Great Aunt would be sufficient for the age difference. That's one's grandmother's generation. It would be fitting for someone a bit more work-focused who had kids when she was a bit older.

Seems like she is:
Margaret "Peggy" Carter was born to Harrison and Amanda Carter on Wednesday, April 9, 1921, in London, England.

The source appears to be a deleted scene from Avengers.

That's strange for some odd reason I thought Rogers was younger than Peggy, but he was born in 1918.

Re: Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors,

There was an allusion to Peggy and Sharon's relationship in CA:TWS. After Steve left the Smithsonian, he then visited Peggy at the hospital, after which he stopped by the VA to see Sam. The next we see Steve, he is arriving home that night where he encounters Sharon in the hallway. She is talking on the phone with someone saying, "So sweet. That is so nice." Then she sees Steve and she tells the person she's talking to that she's gotta go. She then says to Steve, "My aunt. She's kind of an insomniac." I always took that to mean that to mean that she was on the phone with her Great-Aunt Peggy (as that's the relationship in the comics) talking aboutSteve's visit earlier in the day.

While they're holding off on the in-universe reveal, the actress, the writers and the directors have all said she's Sharon Carter.

The reason you thought that is that Peggy being born in 1921 is not remotely consistent with how the character was presented in TFA. It's pretty clear that they're just trying to keep her at a "reasonable" age, rather than having her a centenarian.
