Capt. Robert April in ST Sequel?

Who in the fuck is Captain Robert April? Talk about unnecssary. Tribbles have more of a case.
Captain Robert April was the first name that Gene Roddenberry choice for the name for the Commanding officer of the Yorktown. Which was later change to the Enterprise.

Well, why not have him captaining the USS Yorktown?

They probably most likely will do that. They probably say, that Captain Pike had serve on the Yorktown as Captain April first officer. Before he was offer the command of the Enterprise.

What if there was another Enterprise before the version of the NCC-1701 we see in this movie? They could call it the NCC-1700 and say APril had been it's captain. The ship was either retired or destroyed before the events of the first movie which explains why there building a new one. Also for fun you could have it look like the !701 did in the movies. Return to the classic look. What if the NCC-1701 we see in Abramsverse was not a Constitution-class starship but that class of ships did exsit and a Enterprise was one of them.

I really could care less about what happens with April, honestly. I would rather see another character who appeared in the TV series show up (don't have a specific character in mind).

I know who you have in mind. Loskene! :techman:

I don't think April will be in the next or any future Trek movie. If he was to appear in the re-booted Trek, the last one was the one to do so. What purpose could he serve in any future one, given that Pike is the first captain of the ENT in this timeline?

As for some of the casting suggestions - well no offence but how could Leslie Nielsen be taken seriously? As soon as he'd come onscreen, people would be waiting for 'Surely you can't be serious!' - 'Yes I am ... and don't call me Shirley!' 'Romulan ale?' - 'Yes it is.' Or for him to start falling over the bridge, accidentally landing in the Federation President's lap, etc.

Liam Neeson - done to death. How many times do we have to see him in the mentor/ father figure roles? Qui Gon Jinn, Aslan, Ras Al Ghul (albeit a cunning spin on his stereotype as that kind of role), roles in Gangs of New York, Kingdom of Heaven.

I liked the casting of Bruce Greenwood as Pike because no-one saw it coming, yet he fitted so well. Someone like Sam Neill or Gabriel Byrne might work well as April - not as big a name, not overly associated with this sort of role but charismatic enough to carry it. But I really don't expect to see him in the list of characters for STXI.

Not too keen on the April thing. As much as i imagined April (played by Sam Neill) and the Enterprise as a kid after reading The Making of Star Trek book, i think it will be shoehorning him in for the sake of it.

Pike on the other hand made sense being in Star Trek, he was the vehicle that helped Kirk get to the Enterprise, given the changed circumstances. Granted, its an alternate reality, but he still served a purpous.

I duno, maybe well see him, maybe and hopefully not. As long as the movie is good, ill take it on the nose.

How about Captain April was going to be the first captain of the Enterprise, when the whole Kelvin/Narada event delayed the Constitution class and scuttled April's career?

And now he's back as the bad guy!

Having just re-watched "Forbidden Planet" the other day, I can honestly say that Leslie Nielsen, as nice of an homage as it would be, is no longer a good choice for me. I thought I could still manage to take him seriously, and the fact that he looked so different (read: younger) helped, but I am very skeptical that the general audience who hasn't ever seen the serious Leslie Nielsen would be able to take him seriously. :(

I vote Sam Neill or Brian Cox. :)

^ Just like Jim Phelps.

Ruh-roh. We know how well that went.

How about April in the place of Matt Decker in a re-imagining of "The Doomsday Machine?" :)
