Can't we just all get along...

While a member of this BBS, I have noticed a bias towards Voyager. Some members seem to see Voyager as the Black Sheep of the Trek family, I am in the aerospace industry and have no problems with ANY of Trek Series, they are all different, and in being different they attract different type people. Why can't we just appriciate the differences between the series and the audience they attract. To quote Rodney King

I'm fine with getting along. I just won't pretend that a crappy show wasn't crappy.

I'm simply a Star Trek fan. Just like sports fans who like to watch "the game", which could and often does mean just about any sporting event, I like to watch "Trek". Of course I do like certain "teams" more than others.

I'll ask the aerospace worker a question: when has any dispute with a family member, colleague, enemy, rival, etc. in your life ever been resolved through technobabble?

On the flip side of the coin: when has any dispute with any of those mentioned above been resolved through personal understanding, meaningful dialogue, emotion, and/or working through a problem together? I'm willing to bet that's happened a heck of a lot more than the previous scenario.

If two mechanics ever get into a fist fight, it won't be about what type of muffler or correct-size wrench or the shape of a spoiler, it'll be about some deep-seated personal conflict that's been bubbling for quite some time. As well, if two mechanics ever celebrate with a some good beers, it's not because they chose the right tools for the job, but because of an achievement, like working together on a project for months on end or because a friendship evolved as a consequence of their work.

Before joining the TrekBBS a few years ago I never knew that there was a "problem" with Voyager or that DS9 actually was being enjoyed by a large segment of fans.

I enjoyed Voyager while finding much of DS9 quite dull. I'm actually a hardcore TOS fan anyway. But I enjoy all Trek for the most part.........

But it's all Trek. And Trek is good. Trek is good for what ails you. Trek is good for washing socks and stripping ceilings. (to paraphrase BAD)

Trek is good all-around entertainment. In short, Trek is better than most current television. :techman:

I'm not going to pretend that I liked Voyager. That doesn't mean I'm going to attack those who do, but the honest truth is that I think as a concept, even Enterprise had more promise than Voyager did. Both of them were hurt by bad writing and poor character development (and in Voyager's case, by introducing Seven of Nine)...but at least Enterprise had originality of concept going for it. Voyager would have worked if more risks had been taken with it, more like nuBSG or DS9. But it came off as a rehash of TNG...just in the Delta Quadrant.

Whaooaaa! I'm a VOY fan! It wasn't perfect, but I've never really got the harshness.

I thought Kes wasn't very good, and Seven was a good replacement - Jeri Ryan was pretty nuanced. I thought the actors for Chakotay and Kim weren't up to it, but the characters were fine, and they managed to skate through.

There were episodes to dislike, and episodes to cherish. And in Janeway, they had a bloody good captain. She wasn't perfect, she was in a very tough situation, and she came out well, while bending the rules a helluva lot :)

Now see, DS9 is the Trek I probably won't watch again. There were some really good eps in it, but the whole thing overall left me a bit "meh".

Go ahead, mock me! I am impervious!

/*runs away before he can be mocked*/

Despite all of the claims of mockery toward the fans made in this thread, I see very little of that. People mock the hell out of the show, certainly, but few people claim that fans of the show "don't have the right" to be such or anything along those lines.

Heh, I'm the opposite: I thought the actors were fine by the characters weren't up to it. But either way, I think we can agree that it wasn't quite right :)

Really? I'd say Enterprise and its fans are looked down upon FAR more than Voyager fans.

Yeah, Enterprise gets way more hate than Voyager. I happen to agree with that view. Voyager had lots of problems and missed chances, but I still found a lot of things to like about it. Enterprise on the other hand leaves me completely cold and I consider it to be by far the worst Star Trek show that I have ever seen.

That said, I feel no need to go around trying to make the Enterprise fans feel bad about liking the show like I've seen a few people do.. I simply avoid the Enterprise forums, it is that simple. Avoid what you don't like, makes your life a lot more enjoyable.

Agreed! It IS great at stripping ceilings... oh wait, oops, I meant to agree with your last sentence.... Trek IS better than most current Television.

There's not much else out there which represents hope, triumph over adversity and the human spirit like ST did ... ok ok, Two and Half Men does, but not much else... ;)

I tend to agree with this. In any case, I was like you before I joined the forum- I had no clue about warp nacelles, secondary hulls, VOY and ENT's lack of popularity among the fanbase.

But....... I am not offended by different opinions. What people say about the technobabble and poor writing and continuity problems is valid and I see those problems, as well; I'm just not bothered by them one bit. I like VOY and ENT, although DS9 is my fave Trek show.

I think it's good people don't always agree, because if we did, there would be no need for discussion. Also, disagreeing doesn't mean not getting along on a personal level.

The biggest group of fans "taking it without lube" from the other fans right now are the ones who still like and want to see more Trek set in the existing universe with full respect paid to canon.

Witness the smarmy condescension of posters like Starship Polaris as an example...

I don't think Polaris is condescending.... but then again I don't value canon as much as many people, do, so... *shrugs*

Cool, Thanks for the feedback!! I only work in the AS Industry, I don't live in it. There is a time for non-Tbabble talk and a time to speak the speak. Hopefully, I have come to a point when I realize the proper time, place and situation to decide which one to use...

What I hate is the way that due to the writers stupidly overpowering that little intrepid voyager fans now think that voyager could beat the enterprise d, e and the defiant 3 on one without a scratch.
