The bulk of my posts have been in the SF/F forum, especially in my later tenure at Trekbbs. As such, I've seen some beloved shows come and go. If I may be so bold, I'd like to make some comments and give some advice.
- The first day is the worst. You feel really sad and down and the little snarky "bash" posts will really piss you off. Don't respond to them, anyone who'd post such a thing on the day of announcement is just trying to enjoy your misery. Don't give in, you will feel better the next day that you didn't, and you won't give them the satisfaction.
- Speaking of anger, getting pissed off at Moonves, UPN, Paramount, Berman, whoever isn't really going to help either. Maybe it would be a time to tell them how much you have enjoyed Enterprise and Trek and that you hope to see more in the future. I'd probably respond better to that than to death threats and insults.
- With Firefly, we are getting a feature film in Serenity. Farscape got a follow-up mini-series. The cast has a look that fits well with Sci-Fi's series, so you never know, there may be some kind of continuation or guest roles to anticipate.
- Enjoy what's left. There are still episodes to go, treat them as precious, and enjoy them. You are going to feel closer to your fellow posters than ever as you lament that these are the last.
- There's some advance warning. Farscape ended with John Crichton <span class="spoiler"><font class="small">Spoiler:</font><hr /><span>turned to particles</span><hr /></span>! At least you will likely get a decent ending. We had deep discussions on the final episode of Angel for weeks!
- You *did* have a good run. Firefly got 12 episodes (3 unaired), Dead Like Me and Special Unit 2 got 2 seasons, Wonderfalls had a half season produced most of it unaired, Space Above and Beyond one season and so on. Even Farscape only got 4 seasons. The original Trek only got three years, the original Battlestar Galactica one year, Buck Rogers two seasons, Lost in Space three years, Space 1999 two, Wonder Woman three. Until TNG, very few genre shows went for over four years.
- If you haven't done so already, explore what else is out there. There's been some entertaining science fiction produced, and I'm sure people here would be glad to give advice on shows to check out.

In 1966 I was five years old, sitting in front of a black and white television watching a weird guy with pointed ears doing cool stuff on a spaceship. There were monsters that sometimes were too scary to watch.
Star Trek went to syndication as soon as NBC cancelled it and I saw those same episodes over and over and over. I then watched, overjoyed, as the animated series debuted on Saturday mornings.
That got killed too, and has almost never been rerun, tho I understand it's soon to be released on DVD.
Then Star Wars hit and Hollywood, ever the incestuous dung-heap, cast frantically about for other properties they hoped would draw in the dollars. Lo and behold, Star Trek: The Motion Picture arrived. It was glorious and disappointing at the same time.
More movies followed, and then The Next Generation. Joy!! It took a couple seasons to find its feet, but it remains the second-best of the Trek series, eclipsed only by the original.

Then Deep Space Nine. Incredible!!
Then, unfortunately, the atrocious Voyager. It was clear about halfway thru the first season that the people now entrusted with Star Trek had run out of steam. Voyager went from bad to worse over its seven years.
Suddenly there was new hope. A prequel series, Enterprise. Birth of the Federation! First contact with the Klingons! The Romulan war!
Three or four episodes in, it was plain that the management had no clue what they were doing. Continuity violations, contradictions of established Trek lore, recycled Voyager stories . . . it was a mess. It had potential, but that potential was sadly unrealized. A great cast was being poorly used.
Rumors of cancellation. Would there be a third season, or a fourth? Turns out there would be, probably to reach the "magic 100" episode mark for syndication. Fourth season, deliverance!! Manny Coto comes along and shows the creatively bankrupt Berman and Braga how good the show could be.
Too late. Plummeting ratings and the alienation of Star Trek's loyal core of fans had done too much damage. Cancelled, this time for real.
You know what? Good. The franchise needs to rest. It needs to be pried away from B&B, lie fallow for a season, and find new strength. I'm thinking three to five years of no new Trek movies or TV shows might give everyone the break they need to come back with new ideas, new approaches, fresh energy. There's people out there who will be like dammed-up rivers with no outlet, bubbling over with ideas that they will have time to refine and plan out properly. When Star Trek comes back (and it will, it's far too great a revenue machine to lie unused for too long), it will be renewed and strong. Freed of past missteps, entrusted to new management with bold new ideas.
It will be great again.

You can be sure if Julie Chen AKA Mrs. Les Moonves was in the show, it wouldn't have been cancelled. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets a new show of some kind on UPN.

Considering that Moonves (who essentially controls everything about the franchise's future now) has stated his dislike for the franchise, I doubt we'll see a resurrection, or new series, anytime soon.
Now maybe the constant "ENT should be cancelled" stuff will stop.

I feel exactly like you do. I will only remain on this board for the final episodes and then I will not support anything to do with Trek ever again. It's not worth this crap.
I grew up with TOS only to see Trek die, today.
Well geez... If some of us old-timers had felt that way, we wouldn't be here today bemoaning the loss of series #5.
I think that some folks need to step back and take a breather. I sortof felt this coming more strongly in January when I saw the ratings for ENT "Daedalus" and figured the bubble that the show was riding on had now burst.
I have been highly critical of this show from the 2nd season on and am saddened that now that it is finally addressing some things that should have been addressed during the first season, that it won't see much of that through.
However this does not mean you should completely give up your fandom. The franchise lives on with new adventures in the novels and I urge many of you disenchanted folks to delve into them and get your Trek fix. Certainly ENT has its own series of novels that have and will continue the adventures of that crew and that show.

I wasn't expecting this. I haven't been as excited about the show for the past year, but I never stopped watching it. I'll miss it.
And I will boycott UPN - mainly because nothing else in their programming interests me.

The girl there does not know the complaint procedure, but if they get enough calls I'm sure she'll learn it quickly enough.
The publicly-posted Paramount number also gets one the number of Les Moonves. The voice-recog system freaks and sends you to an operator when you say that name. The operator says that 323-575-2345 gets you the office of Les Moonves. This was given openly with no inquiry as to my need, so it is not secret information.
All of the above took about five minutes on the phone. Even if you're getting robbed by your long-distance provider you can do this for less than a buck.

If by "its own series of novels" you mean "about four or five novels", then maybe you'd have a case. But there is a fairly piss-poor selection of ENT novels, not the hundreds that the other series have.
And who's going to want to write any more ENT novels now that the series is cancelled?
