Do you think that our medical technology is currently advanced enough so that someone can have plastic surgery to get a Bajoran nose? Have you ever heard of any Trek fans that did that? I just randomly wondered this the other day (been rewatching DS9). Don't worry, I have no desire to have plastic surgery and get a Bajoran nose. lol

I would tend to think not.
The skin on our heads is fairly thick when you include all the layers of the epidermis and dermis and the fatty layer and any implant would have to be below the fatty layer. So, you wouldn't get the definition needed to show the ridges, and it would look more like a lump.

The closest thing I've heard of to a star trek alien plastic surgery procedure is vulcan ears.

yes I think you could.

If they can make micheal jackson white, then surely anything is possible.
To create the ridges it would mean having some sort of template inserted i wouldimagine though

they make people look like barbies. why wouldn't they?

and by that I'm not referring to reputable surgeons. but I imagine you could find someone.

Indeed, the problem w/that nose bridge area is the subcutaneous layer (fatty layer) isn't that much (or at all).
Step-like layering would be problematic. Also, scar tissue would form and prolly make it look bad and wouldn't be surprised if gravity would eventually force the ridges into a U-shape. I'm sure there are prosthetics

Even if you could get plastic surgery to make your nose look like a Bajoran's, imagine the looks you'd get from people.

I remember hearing a story about how during a break in DS9 filming, Nana Visitor went out shopping while still in her Major Kira make-up, and a saleslady asked, "Oh you poor dear, what happened to your nose?".

I heard she drove herself to a walk-in clinic for something minor and they immediately assumed she was there because of a traumatic nose injury

was there a case of something similar when another star left because of an emergency while in make up.
Think it was quark/armin going home for something.
Think i recall this from the ds9 extras

That's hilarious! I can't believe that someone would really think that Trek make-up would really look realistic (i.e. like a bad accident). I've never seen anyone in Trek make-up in person, so I don't know how realistic it looks in person. Though of course you can think of the countless examples of Trek aliens that had really bad fakey make-up jobs!

You could easily get a Bajoran nose nowadays. If you doubt it, Google images "subcutaneous implants". You'll see. :)

Would any surgeon actually do that?
Sure, if you have enough money. Look at what plastic surgeons did to Michael Jackson.

(In fact, I think maybe Jackson had a Bajoran nose implant which got infected and had to be removed. That explains how he wound up with no nose!)

Forgive the interruption, but I just have to share this: My mother knows a guy who used to do make-up on DS9 (no I'm not going to name-drop - he wasn't the main one or anything, and he went to high school with my little sister), and a couple of times for Halloween he gave her a Bajoran nose. Besides whatever polymer or putty or whatever was used as a filler, the main ingredient was (da da da daaaaaaah!) a non-lubricated condom. Really. Mom had to go to a couple of shops to find one. Yes, of course she did it herself - Mom is fearless. And she made a really great Kai Winn, too.[/ 1st digression]

Second digression: Mom is, of course, the one who introduced me to Star Trek. [/ 2nd digression]

But I'm sure you could get some plastic surgeon to give you a permanent one. Not a reputable plastic surgeon, of course, but if Michael Jackson could get so many nose jobs that his nose was falling off, and if Joan Rivers can find people to make her look like whatever she's supposed to be (a robot, perhaps?), a Bajoran nose would count as practically normal.

Bearing in mind even Nerys said she had a busted nose when on earth... l'd say yes- maybe a stepped prosthetic under the flesh?
