I was intrigued by the name Villejuif. According to Wikipedia, the area was named Villa Judea in the early 12th century. Modern historians believe it was originally the estate of Juvius or Juveus, a Gallo-Roman landowner. Well, that certainly sounds better than “Jewtown”!The close suburb (Villejuif and my home are close suburb) are part of the urban area of Paris. We call ourselves Parisian when we speak to strangers.![]()
